I've experienced this in my own playthrough and helped @Zhinjio when they ran into it in their playthrough. I realized it wasn't on the Known Issues list so I figured I'd report on it here.

Lowered Weapons on Nexus [https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/522?tab=description] breaks "When There's Smoke" when the player and Jake meet Aiden. It makes the player unable to select/continue dialogue, I'm guessing because the sequence includes the player raising and lowering their weapon. I've had some luck in previous playthroughs by unequipping all weapons before the dialogue sequence, but I know @Zhinjio had to full-on disable the mod mid-playthrough to complete the sequence, then re-enable it, which is obviously not ideal for save file integrity.

Hopefully this thread can help any other folks that run into this issue since it's a well-known and popular mod on Nexus. Since removing the mod in subsequent playthroughs, the quest has run without any issues whatsoever.
