Loot, esl and sim settlements

If loot is taking some esl files and throwing them inbetween and amongst the esms, is this bad? I heard a long time ago that esl had to come right after esm and not mixed nilly-willy among them, but then later that maybe this wasn't so. Everything appears to be working. Some say loot doesn't work with fallout 4 but I've found that usually, so long as I don't expect it to read my mind, it works.

What mod organizer are you using?

I wouldn’t panic if it is working. The CC files are .esl and they are above.

The below could help if you are using vortex.

I'm using mod organizer, but it's loot that is doing the thing I'm asking about.

See: metadata
You can add sort rules to metadata as needed.

This is why some folks give loot a bad wrap. Not understanding that there are settings that the user is responsible for as things change so quickly and a “fix here might mean breaking something else” kind of thing.

Like I said before though, I think you might be fine as is.

Yeah, I know about metadata, it's the reason that I don't hate loot for fallout 4 as much as some people do. Anyway, it seems to be working, with esms and esls all mixed together.

It's normal and safe.

For an esl file to be sorted above all other files, 2 flags must be set in the header. ESM and ESL. If both are set (like with Creation Club files), they always get put at the top of the load order. If only ESL is set, they can be sorted like normal plugins. This is behaviour is how we can make patches for mods, and make them ESL format, and not take up a slot in your load order.

Alright... so if you have a case like a seperate ESL texture file where you should load it after it's parent, will it load the textures up right? The parent might be buried way down in the load order.

ESL files do not contain textures. Textures in a .bsa file will be loaded at the time that their parent .esm/esl/esp file gets loaded, and finally any loose texture files will be loaded last.
