Inquiry on our boy Jake (romance spoilers beware)

Okay, so! This is a question I want answered as I currently can't finish the Chapter 2 campaign for a good 2-3 weeks thanks to other obligations taking me away from my PC (such as Christmas). But, I have this question for you guys who are further in the story and have been flirting with our home boy Jake.

There's the red speech check to flirt you can make after the Gunner compound raid, where you ask about you guys as a thing, and he talks about discussing this later in a private environment if you manage to pass it (idk if you can fail, because I got 10 Char). Understandable, we did just slaughter a bunch of people.

But I've been progressing the story further and am working on the HQ, but it hasn't come up AT ALL in conversation. He still talks about his daughter with you and is his lovable farmer boy self, but every convo I've had with him thus far it hasn't come up. So I'm here to ask the simple question.

Does it ever get brought up again or am I being trolled?
 
Chapter 2 is setting up Jake's romance, so you'll get a confirmation from Jake at the end of Chapter 2 if he considers the two of you in a romance or not. But you'll have to wait until Chapter 3 for the romance to really begin. Sorry!!
 
It might not be something I'll ever use myself (literally the only time I do "romance subplots" in videogames is if they attach an Achievement to it and it's a game I care about "100%ing") but I'm glad it's there now with how much thirst there's been for the boy.
 
Honestly, I've only recently gotten into the mod after my friend suggested it and I immediately fell in love with Jake as a character. His VA does an absolutely amazing job portraying his character and he feels like an actual human being, compared to most of the characters from Fallout 4 itself.

I'm also someone who enjoys getting in character when playing games like Fallout, which playing the character archetype I am alongside Jakes character makes things extremely interesting. As well as with the other characters, ofc, their VA's did an amazing job. But Jake holds a place in my heart with his little 'darlin's.

It's a genuine fear. I got to flirt twice and both were checks that were harder then the last, I wasn't sure if it was working or not because Jake already actively compliments the player and calls them darlin'. He's very hard to read in a romantic sense, because it could just be him being nice lmao.

It would be interesting to see a dialog tree where failed flirt checks turn him gay, or keep him straight, whichever works for your character.
But the more overt romance stuff is supposed to come with ch. 3. You’re just twisting his titties for now.

Yea, I heard.

My BIGGEST curiousity though is how romancing Jake will change the dialogue for Chapter 3, if it's even possible (which I feel bad seeing as it'll probably give the VA more work to do), but it'd be interesting for sure. Seeing as a lot of the Companions lack that aspect when you travel with them. Their lines stay generic and it'd be nice to see Jake actually give different reactions depending on your relationship with him.

Like, an example (ofc it couldn't happen because it's Chapter 2). But with the Gunner base raid, if you did romance him previously and when he tells you he'll stay down in the basement, but then adds slight emphasis on the player to stay safe or something. Just small little things would be lovely.
 
What I’m most curious about, and keep in mind, I just finished the initial set up of HQ and Water Under the Bridge, so no spoilers past this please, but from Water Under the Bridge,
it sounded like the ONLY reason he and Katelyn separated was because he wouldn’t put in the effort to better their lives. He was content to get by. Now, he obviously isn’t. He’s driven. This is the man Katelyn saw in him and wanted him to become, especially for their daughter’s sake.

so what I’m wondering is…is he going to get back together with Katelyn? I mean, I can totally see it in my head. We finally found Katelyn and Laura at one of our amazing settlements, and Katelyn is just like “you built this? Jake this is literally the effort I wanted from you this whole time. Maybe we could try again?” And then Jake is like “I guess we could try for Laura’s sake…” and then they get back together.

like, in Memory Lane, Jake made it seem like he and Katelyn had been separated a while. No love lost between them and all that. It was long gone and over, and they were just co-parenting Laura. But from the sounds of it after Water Under the Bridge, they were together for several years, long enough for Laura to grow up some, and only separated after Jake refused to better their lives by buying and repairing the family water plant. Then, she took Laura and left shortly afterwards (a few weeks? A few months?)

I dunno. Just rubs me the wrong way? Like…is he REALLY over her, or is he still using us? I honestly have a hard time discerning whether Jake actually cares about US or not, or whether he just feels indebted/guilty towards us.

Wish I could just DIRECTLY ASK HIM “hey, when you find Katelyn and Laura, if she would take you back, would you do it?” Or “hey, do you actually care about me as a person, or am I still just a means to an end for you?” Or, you know, just outright say “you misled me from the beginning about your true motivations and how much you actually cared about me. You used me. You saw me as a tool. And I don’t know if I can move past that.” And just… see what he says? I really don’t like that he used Sole for his own selfish reasons and wasn’t upfront about it. Just feels bad, man.

Since jake is romancible by popular demand I suspect
his wife will be dead when you catch up with them, or will die near the end.
