While farming is nice, I feel like if my settlers can handle the kind of stuff you see in level 3 advanced industrial plots, they should be able to use more "industrial" food sources. The thing is, building plans like this would require power, but agricultural plots don't have anywhere to connect to power.
What I am suggesting:
First of all, add a power connection to the agricultural plot. While most of the building plans probably won't use power, it will give people the option to make them do so.
Second, it may be a good idea to rename agricultural plots "food plots". While it isn't as impressive sounding, it does give a wider range of options for buildings.
Lastly, I do have a few specific ideas in mind for an expansion pack I'm calling "The Food Industry". However, since I want to try using the builder's toolkit myself, I'd prefer if nobody tries to make this for now. Feel free to suggest more ideas below.
  • Hunting Lodge
  • Butcher
  • Food Scavenging Station
  • Soup Kitchen
  • Cannery?
  • Bakery?
If this idea isn't implemented, I'll make them use water instead of power:cool:.

Feels like this could open the doors to something like producing Food Paste (with a quest to first get the formula, and then eliminate the side effects). Or I guess simpler things like a climate-controlled indoor fish farm, but that's not as fun.

You cant really "produce" food with power unless you are talking about growing with artificial lights and/or hydroponic systems (High lvl agricultural plots already have automated watering. without power though^^ but that could be possible with mechanical solutions I guess).

Maybe a few of those high-tech power/water hungry industrial farms could make sense in a few special settings like institute/vault.
But I think the main focus should be on having normal agricultural farms and those shouldnt be forced to require energy.

It would be nice to have industrial plans that require certain agricultural plans though. E.g. an industrial plot that produces salisbury steak should require a bramin agricultural plot or a factory that does produce noodle soup should require e.g. corn farm and tato farm.

Seems like you could just make an industrial plot that produces food.

Will the code handle that?

I would think that would be simpler than adding largely-unnecessary power conduits to all the ag plots.

a2realeb's idea of industrial food plants that require particular ag plots is really cool, though.

@Yhalbey: Are you still pursuing this? I hope so.

And if you are, please consider a bakery. Razorgrain, water & power go in (maybe eggs, though with ag plots generating atmospheric chickens, the eggs could be taken as written), bread and happiness come out. (Because fresh bread = happiness!)
