Incompatibility with Classic Holstered Weapons System [CHW] - Where There's Smoke Quest

Issue: During dialog phase of Where There's Smoke directly after Jake asks for help in dealing with Aiden, upon choosing a dialog option (doesn't matter which one, result is the same), the pseudo cinematic will not continue. Camera will be stuck on player. You literally can't do anything from this point forward.

Solution: Save before activating the dialog sequence at the destroyed home with the dead gunners. Disable CHW. Load game and continue save. At any point after the dialog scene with the player, Jake, and Aiden completes, you can re-enable CHW. I wait until after the firefight and ending dialog, however.

Just thought I'd throw this out there for anyone else encountering this issue. None of the other solutions/workarounds I looked into had anything to do with my specific problem with this quest. But I'm certainly not the only one using CHW so there must be more people with this exact quest hang-up scratching their heads. Guessing it has something to do with the way CHW hijacks weapon equipping/unequipping or whatever activator/command is used to get Aiden/Jake to put their guns away not firing because of CHW.

Using CHW myself as well, never had to disable CHW for that quest though. Yes, the cut-scene can hang, but I thought it's more to do with how you approach the area. I've had it hang several times when approaching from the edge of the map and play through when staying clear from the edge of the map. Usually I now approach the area from the little pond near the railway and then it should be good.

No cut scene hangs in my playthrough after disabling that mod. Who knows though? I tried the 'entering from different angles' suggestion from a past thread with no success. There's also the tfc thing, and the aim thing, the dialog camera enable/disable thing, and even the quest breaking skip stage bit. None of them worked. It was only after I disabled CHW that the entire sequence played through perfectly. I recall on my first playthrough of this quest I did not have CHW installed and had no issues then either. And on both playthroughs I entered the scene while scrapping up against the map edge with the 'you can't go that way' warning prompt. Funny how these issues pop up differently for different load orders. Just posted this solution here in case others run across the problem and run a search through the forum.

I've been using CHWS on my latest playthough and had no problem with Where There's Smoke. However, I had earlier in the playthrough modified the .ini for CHWS to have it omit Jake (to prevent the "two weapons on Jake's hip" issue), so perhaps that side-stepped a the potential issue?

I have never had that issue there myself, and I have CHWS installed since forever ago.
What weapon do YOU have equipped?
Remington 11, homemade replacer, zap gun. But I tried going into that quest scene with all my weapons given to a companion while CHW was still installed, forced them to wait outside the area, and was wearing nothing but stained skivvies, so I doubt anything is tied to a specific weapon.
Let's also rule this out: do you use "See Through Scopes?" That's a known incompatibility with "Where There's Smoke."
Quest completed fine with See Through Scopes installed both times. That incompatibility makes no sense to me.

The only difference between my two run throughs of the 'Where There's Smoke' quest was the CHW mod. The freeze occurred with Aiden's response in lowering his weapon, however, so I'm not sure if it's tied to Jake or not. Again, I just threw this in the forum in case anyone runs a google search on that specific quest and the other advice doesn't work for them. The 'solutions' I ran across in my search all seemed half measured and random. Weird how these issues crop up...and funny that my specific issue and solution appears to be just as random as the rest. I tested it several times to make sure it was CHW causing the specific scene to hang too...oh well! Regardless, SS2 appears to be way more stable in regards to these cut scenes than Conqueror was. Other than a minor burp with a settler recruitment quest that was easily solved by fast travel to activate a 'It Came From Planet X' scene (turns out there are at least two completely different main outcomes to that quest), I've experienced no other issues. Major kudos to everyone involved.

So..... conflicting reports for both See Through Scopes and Classic Holstered Weapons System [CHW]

I can put a note on the Where There's Smoke quest, but can't post it as a Conflict/Compatibility issue on Known Issues without testing being done with a minimal mod list ( UFO4P, Hudframework, Workshop Framework and SS2)

Feels like I should post both of these mods in the Conflict/Compatibility Forum with a Call for Testers

I thought See-Through Scopes was an issue if you carry a gun with a scope from that mod into the scene?
That's my understanding. I have STS installed and the scene runs perfectly fine as long as I have a gun without a STS equipped at the time. (Just having a gun with a STS in your inventory is fine).

Edit: I also use CHWS and I've never had a problem with this scene (again, as long as my equipped weapon doesn't have a STS).

It was quite probably a see through scopes issue. I ran into that one too, but it only happens if your gun has one of the scopes that have been made see-through by the mod (so the reflex scope or long scope is still fine). My first time playing SS2 I had this issue and unfortunately, I had brought only weapons with scopes... I had to drop all my weapons at the rail line nearby and then scramble like a madwoman as soon as the cutscene completed.

What happens if none of your weapons in your inventory are equipped when the scene starts? Does the scene force one of your guns to be equipped?

I'm pretty sure the quest will attempt to equip a ranged weapon first. I remember others saying they went into this scene with a melee weapon equipped and it was switched to a ranged one. Maybe I should try it myself?

Just tried while using Classic Holstered Weapons System [CHW] This is a new save that I have been testing a new load order in with over 400 mods.
Had no issues at all!

Ps> Aiden invisible weapon is due to the weapon replacers I use.

I don't use See-Through Scopes so not sure if that could be the issue!

It's not CHW, See-thru-scopes, or any other weapon mod. i don't use any and it's stuck for me right now

Reported in another thread the issue was caused by the power of Todd. Rolling back to an earlier save seemed to fix the issue.

when you say power of Todd, you do mean it's just Fallout being Fallout. or is there a mod called power of Todd?

Also, after rewatching some of his interviews, I'm convinced that Todd Howard has no idea what he's talking about and he's just a mouthpiece so the real nerds at the company don't have to talk to anyone.

^ This.
