In RoTC, is building separate power generators unnecessary?

I was confused and ended up trying to wire as much as I could for Sanctuary and making a separate room full of generators to add power to the city whole, and connecting wires to power the plots directly.

It seems that plots are powered ambient-ly from something, but should I have left everything alone?

Would the plots make use of the additional power without connecting them directly with a wire?

Due to limitations of the game engine, they are powered wirelessly. You don't have to build or connect anything.

No. Plots from the city design are self powered, but those that you add don´t. As the city upgrades some generators will appear

PS: If you change or move the city design plots they will require power then

Sanctuary at the higher levels certainly looks like it's producing a lot of power, there even a nuclear reactor room. It might just be for show, but it's immersive in any case. Other settlements build big wind energy towers, wait till small Tenpines Bluff reaches level 3.
