In progress: Faction sound packs

I've started a Conqueror run with Jammer after being away a while. While I was gutting a mercenary as my underlings enslaved another small camp of farmers, I was thinking that the combat music sounded maybe a little too upbeat. Possibly even inappropriately heroic. I'm not the expert of the Raider lifestyle that some of y'all have become, but it seems like many of the vanilla sound cues just don't fit that "evisceration with a smile" theme going there.

After doing some poking into how to replace combat music, I believe I'm going to try to make Sound Packs for various factions. There's generic Raider with Jammer's crew, but the (for example) Rust Devils should have a more industrial feel IMHO, the Brotherhood could have more of a martial (ahem fascist ;) influence.... I think there's potential here.

Still looking at all the technical requirements, but the goal is to *add* to the overall soundtrack with more faction-appropriate cues, and *replace* the "Combat" music levels (general combat, Boss Fight, etc) with new tailored versions. For example, here's what I think might be more appropriate as a general Raider combat music variation on the theme:

So...
Is this something folks would be interested in?
Assuming yes, what factions or themes would be in demand?

I use this, I cannot recommend it enough.

Grab the main file, the main menu theme and the Mega Battle Pack 2 Fix.

Ok, so it looks like
1) yes, and
2) disciples is covered lol.

Looks like that's a "dark ambient electronica" sound, according to the author. I was thinking more inline with a genre that matches each faction.
Edit: yeah, after listening to the samples that's definitely more present-day than I was thinking. Good stuff, tho. I grew up on Nitzer Ebb and Front 242-era Industrial :)

Course they are, best faction in the game :aye:
Do you have brochures? I feel like I picture you handing them out on every thread lol

in other, more old-school and less darkwave news, stealthing through the map in the dead of night with a bowie knife whilst playing this song got me more into the badguy mindset than I usually am able to get. Almost cinematic, it was.

I'm never going to stop dropping hints around the place until someone releases a faction pack for them......

Moby with F4, interesting. Might give it a go.

Specifically as he's remixing old "lord's gonna cut you down" gospel while you're chasing people with a knife, it starts to get a little Tarentino...

Do you need a faction pack, tho? I thought the long-term plan was more integration with Nuka-World so you'll be able to go join their happy club as normal?

Why don't you make one? You could give them the attention they deserve, and if someone with less passion for the material does it, die-hards will end up disappointed. The discord is a great resource and those of us who have done it are here to help out as you run into issues and develop new ideas for your pack

I think it would be neat, would you be releasing it as a single pack where you try to dynamically update the music (no idea if that can be done or not) based on the factions or does the player load the add-on sound replacer they want to match the faction they intend to use?

You right, you right.
He says and then does nothing about it........

Everything I've seen indicates each theme would have to be a plugin, and you'd enable the one you want before launching the game. It's basically the sonic equivalent of a texture replacer. The game refers to things like "music_battle_boss01," so anything that alters specific sound cues is an override. I'd hoped to at least be able to make a holotape control or something, but I don't think that's possible..

This would be very cool. I would love it, it's something I want but had assumed it is too difficult &/or intensive to reasonably expect to become a thing.

I think many people would love it.

Single pack would be a cool way to do it IMO, that way faction packs could require it or have an optional ESL that requires faction plus sounds pack, or it could be made to work with them seamlessly if it is possible.

I'd perhaps like to though I am concerned about if I will have sufficient time to keep it up to date since there is going to be tons of things added over time plus I have other stuff on the go. It would be easy enough right now but I expect will be much more challenging in time.
