Bug I *think* the toy factory crashes my game

What?

I don't fast travel there. However, it did happen after teleporting there. But it still happened after saving and loading.

It's about 25 settlers in Abernathy Farm, where I first encountered the crash, and 35 in Sanctuary Hills, where it sometimes happens as well.

I'm not far enough into my own test game to see this behavior yet, but I'm hoping it will surface in my game as well. (sadly I also haven't seen the problem with alternate recruitment where the beacon keeps summoning people either, so I'm not getting good luck seeing these issues surface :/)

In other forum posts, I too have ditched UFO4 Patch as well. I had the latest revision....

I find 15 to 20 settlers is optimal / max for a balanced settlement and performance issues.

Teleporting is essentially the same thing. The game is suddenly trying to load all of that settlement at once. Having 25 to 35 settlers is already pushing past the limits the game was meant to handle.

Do you also have anything built in the settlement using vanilla workshop items? Such as buildings, walls, turrets, etc?

mh, is it even safe to do so? I'm seriously considering it now as well.
I am planning on moving 10-15 people away from sanctuary to spectacle island, once I unlocked that.

Yes, quite a bit, actually...

Then your crash is most likely you are exceeding what the game can handle. Not the toy factory specifically. The only way to fix that is reduce your graphics quality options or reduce the amount of items in your settlement.

On second thought, try turning the shadow quality down to low first. Turning shadows off might give some weird video issues.

Turning off godrays and/ or shadows can give a big impact. There are some other changes you can do listed in the wiki: https://simsettlements.com/web/wiki/index.php?title=Performance.

There are some good performance optimization guides for fallout on the web also.

Oh that's a fair point, I run on mid-range settings and godrays off, so that might be another reason I didn't see the crash with that save, I hadn't even thought of that honestly
