HQ Staff Assignment help please

I always seem to have trouble assigning staff in HQ. I've turned off disasters, fires, etc. But it is still very random when it works and when it doesn't. Can anyone point me to a post that gives some tips on managing this? It seems like it should be simple, but it rarely works, and when it does, I have no idea why it did all the sudden. I want to like HQ, but it is extremely frustrating
 
Selecting the Department you want to assign staff to in Command Mode, and then selecting Manage should bring up a trade window to move your Staff into the Department, then you move them from one window to the other.
Is that not working ? What is happening ?
 
Yeah, I'd say 95% of the time that doesn't work. It doesn't matter if it is logistics, admin, engineering, etc. Thye just don't seem to get assigned most of the time. It is very random when they do, and it's not from me doing anything different. I did read a post that said to wait a while after going to HQ, then wait when you open the work bench mode, then wait after you select your workers. That has seemed to help some, but it is still hit or miss. Usually I am trying to assign people who are unassigned already.
 
And certain departments seem to get unassigned with out me doing anything too. I keep losing people out of engineering, for instance. My scientist seem to stay put though. I don't know, I feel like something is going on in the background that is using my workers automatically, but I can't tell what.
 
These issues have been on my "work out what the heck is going wrong for some people" list for some time.

Just got to check a couple things:
Is your version of the mod all up to date?
Are you running ANY other mods that affect either the settlement system in any way, or any of those "item sorting" mods?

(it was probably me you saw emphasizing the importance of taking your time to give the background scripting time to catch up with you in HQ)
 
no other mods other than HUDFrameowrk, Workshop Framework and Workshop frame work script override. I was offshore with slow internet, so I was using 2.3.0 and couldn't update. I downloaded 2.3.1 today, but I have not had time to give it a shot yet.
 
As I'm sure you can imagine, it's one of those very temperamental and difficult issues to nail down and resolve. Let me know how it goes after updating.
