How many city plans for large loadout...

I am running a collection, that is quite large (Story Wealth) and wondering how many city plans can I use "safely" without causing issues? Next question, if you do not mind, if I decide to just do one city with SS2 (Starlight Drive-in) am I able to complete the whole SS2 story? TBH that is my main focus, the story.

I'm not sure how many city plans is too many. I do know that if you exceed the script data limit (a literal ton of city plans would be required) the game will fail to launch. (infinite black loading screen)

You should be able to complete chapter 1 with one settlement. You will miss some side quests though. There is a point towards the end of chapter 1 that requires a settlement, but you can cancel building the story related city plan if you want. For chapter 2, I'm not sure. There are a lot of side quests that are tied to the number and type of plots you have built.

Agreed, most of Unique Settlers you can recruit for your settlements won't be available if you only build 1 settlements.
Several of them have requirements in addition to the number of settlements, plots you have like completion of vanilla quests, owning a specific settlement, etc.
Most of the Unique Settlers have their own recruitment story.

The main problem with running only one settlement is that you won't have many spare settlers to send to HQ after training their stats on recreational plots. You're going to need a few strong and perceptive settlers just to get the HQ set up to begin with.
Three settlements is a good plan, just to get most of what you'll need to progress.

Also, you can use Configurable Settler Limit to set a maximum amount of generic settler npcs that your beacons can attract to a settlement. Once it reaches that many it will continue to function and attract unique SS2 npcs, just not more generic settlers.

Thanks for all the replies, do you know which settlements I NEED to save for Plans? It sounds like I need at least 3 Settlements.

The three you want to build in? ;) The settlement that SS2 uses as your main one is the first settlement you build and power a recruitment beacon in. The quest I referred to gives you a list of settlements to choose from. So, its mostly your choice.

Completely up to you.
I personally prefer to keep Hangman's Alley free for that main story quest that introduces city plans, simply because building there manually is annoying.

I'm more of a free builder myself, keep coming back to the game because I like being creative in the settlement system. Hardly use city plans otherwise :)

I’ve been playing with it for a couple weeks now, level 67 and just finished the Battle for Gunners Plaza. The only real difficulties I’ve found so far is the Storywealth patches are difficult to update, a persistent CTD when entering the Boston hardware store for paint (which I skipped), and now a persistent CTD when trying to enter Vault 81 for Mansfield (which I can’t skip). This afternoon I get to start filtering out the tons of mods trying to find the crash reason. I have Buffout4 installed, but the crash log is unenlightening.

Are you using the Buffout 4 Crash Log Auto Scanner (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/56255)? That gives a lot more information about what might be causing CTDs.

Goodafternoon to all.
Necroposting for a reasons: with Chapter 3 we can build outpost plans, but then the limit of plans to use without problems which is? I used city plans to most of my settlements and the game crash several times when I only come close to them

The mod can easily have a city plan in every settlement. The triangles (Sanctuary-RedRocket-Abernathy and Warwick-SpecicalIsle-SpecicalIsle-Castle) are a concern to not overdevelop. In the triangles aim for a combined population of around 100 in the settlements. I end up in a tug of war between the Castle and the Isle - wanting to build up both.

You can also use only the basic city plans that come with SS2. Those are typically fine as they are single level and provide a small collection of plots designed to meet most baseline settlement needs. A lot of the strain that city plans come with is the upgrading from level to level and the large vertical structures many of them come with. I'd personally recommend - even taking into account the triangles @Skywise001 mentioned - maybe picking one settlement in a triangle to do a big three level plan on and use basic plans on the other two. The basic plans will typically give you food, water, power, an industrial or two, a rec plot or two, and a caravan.

Im working on three plans to take on the sanctuary - Red Rocket - Abernathy problem.
Ive shared my Sanctuary build - the others need more work :)
