Question Happiness Problem

I need help from a Conqueror and Industrial Revolution guru. I am currently doing Conqueror play through, and I am still in the early game. I set up Jammer at Starlight. It is one of the settlements where I chose not to have a city plan, and I have been building it up myself- almost exclusively with SS plots. I chose not to kill Preston (plan to side with raider fully when I'm forced to) and friends and started building up Starlight before I could take my first Raider outpost. We claimed it as our raider outpost and everything was good at first. Not perfect, as making Raiders happy is not as simple as settlers, but it was fine and on the rise. Then I took my first farm. It was Greygarden with a foundation level city plan. I went in with max raiders and I lost a lot of them in the fire fight (playing on a custom survival mode with high damage multipliers for everyone). The survivors stayed there, so now Starlight had Jammer, and like 4 raiders and the happiness just crashed.

I Played a bit more, gave him some recruiting supplies, and my raider count started to rise again at the Starlight outpost, but happiness remained about the same. I wanted to move the Conqueror plot further, and thought taking another settlement would make them happier, so I decided to take Sunshine Tidings for the raiders. That was when I realized I only had 13 raiders to use, and of course I took them all. The resulting fight was brutal and when I was done I looked around and realized there were 2 raider survivors. Starlight now had squat. I've gotten back up to 3 raiders + Jammer at starlight but now my happiness is 18%. I got it up to a wopping 23% but it has dipped again.

I have MORE than enough residential plots, some Industrial (advanced and regular), some Martial plots, and some Recreational plots. I've made sure to assign the raiders to jobs so they don't decide to work the two Ag plots. All of my bars are full, with the exception happiness which is at 18% again, and shows that it's going down still. Every time I get any chems or booze I put them in the recruitment bin. I am still stuck with terrible happiness and I am not attracting Raiders I am running a heavily modded game (it would take a bit to type the full list), but I built the mod list up one at a time and did a dry run and didn't have a problem. My big SS mods are the three in one, mega pack 1 & 2, Conqueror, and industrial city. I have several add-on packs, and a few city plans.

Check your happiness report at Starlight. My guess is you'll see a temporary happiness score of -50. Raiders dying during an assault effect settlement happiness just like a regular settler dying. It's a temporary penalty of -20 happiness per death. It should however cap at -50.

Booze and chem donations to the CP desk can help weather this hit to happiness. But it takes a lot. A metric shit ton.

That's quite interesting, I wonder if the penalties also happen from settler deaths when attacking to take the outpost? If Hired Guns/Gunners on the defending side also count and how long the penalty lasts.

I'll have to run the sv console command on raider recruits as well as defenders' side people to see who has a WorkshopID, presumably only deaths of people who have a WorkshopID matching the workbench should cause the penalty. For Raider recruits I assume they have the previous outpost's WorkshopID until the raid is won, or if this is the first raid then no WorkshopID(-1).

I also wonder if individual bonuses are capped too. I find happiness gets stuck at 20 after taking the first outpost and this is even with me using cheat generators that were set to add +3000 to

WorkshopRatingBonusHappiness "Bonus Happiness" [AVIF:0012722C] & WorkshopRatingHappinessModifier [AVIF:00127237]

I just changed it to be 5 individual counts of +1000 to each of these. Mainly the point of it is to not have to care about settlement leaving or resources being an issue when trying to build for looks or test plots. Never did find out yet what low happiness threshold it is for settlements to leave.

Yeah, happiness is a real I love you to maintain at any raider outpost. I also employ 'cheat' items to boost happiness, and they never seem to really have much of an effect. Enough plots for everyone, make sure most people have a job, raider or not, rec/comm plots, decorations...

I think the most happiness I've ever seen from a raider outpost is 78%. It then plummeted quite rapidly to around 46%, before recovering a little.

Now granted, that may have been on the count of running a raid, but more than a week of in-game time passes and it still doesn't recover by much. Like to understand some of the 'under-the-hood' math that's going on.

Yeah, it should be a little harder to please the guys, but sometimes, I think the underlying mechanics cheats it or something (worse than I do?). Numbers being fudged or whatever.

When doing your rounds to collect caps from settlements just dump 20 jet in the supplies safe.
What's the time frame on this having an effect? Coz I've been dumping half a hundred at a time, plus booze, smokes, whathaveyou. Happiness is still in the basement. When you say they're "easy to make happy," what happiness level do you usually have them steady at? How long does it take you to get back up to that after a raid?

I dump in about 50 items in total at a time.
I usually have them at around 70-72% happiness, and they don't drop that much after a raid. I usually only take 5 with me on a raid though.
The initial time after you take an outpost is the hardest to overcome though. Once ya get through that it's easier to maintain happiness I find.

Also, I always put down a couple of raider recreational plots as soon as I can, not sure if it's a placebo effect but they seem to help a lot.
