Solved Graygarden Assault Will Not End - Subdue Defenders, Update - Success

Probably need some technical assistance here. Assaulted Graygarden three times and encountered the same situation: assault quest would not complete due to subdue remaining defenders.
  1. tried three assaults and to all appearances eliminated the defenders and the supporting civilians/robots with no more "red"
  2. searched Graygarden carefully including the overpass - no defenders
  3. there were no remaining defender markers
  4. used console command "kah" several times at the end of the assault when no defenders could be found
  5. used console command sqt, where it states at Graygarden "Subdue the remaining defenders - Displayed", see image
  6. used console command sqo that listed quests IDs. Even though none were obviously related, checked hopefully all of the them
  7. after the above waited 17 minutes for scripts to clear
Additional suggestions/assistance is always appreciated.

I think you're dealing with two different issues here.

The quests out of order or delays in assault messages is probably due to script lag. In my experience it's a bunch of soldiermanager scripts that take too long to go away. Slows down the entire conqueror system. Setting soldier type, re-assignment, collaring animals, assaults, etc. Could be different in your case, but it doesn't hurt to take a look in resaver when the lag occurs. Just to see what's currently in the active script section. I have a thread with my tests and workarounds if you want to try them. Allows me to keep playing when I start obtaining a bunch of settlement locations and soldiers. Might work for you or might not.

The assaults quests not completing is something else. I'm trying various methods to see if I can continue to repeat the issue at multiple settlements. Just started a liberator playthrough, so it's a new one for me. But the two settlements I tested killing all the enemies before then going back to my outpost, setting up assault, and returning to kill the enemies the scripts places seemed to work. Could just be coincidence. Would be helpful if others tried and see if it works for them as well. Then we'll know we are on to something.

I tried that at Abernathy (pre-kill and go back for assault) as a Liberator and still nothing.
It's possible that there's an un-seen baddy somewhere that is out of aggro range and never gets killed.
I do have Settlements Extended which increases the size of the workshop area for settlements. Maybe they just... wander off...

I agree we are dealing with two different issues, but the vassal assault is a very important feature of the Conqueror mod. If this features is unplayable due to various reasons, then to a significant degree the Conqueror mod as a Liberator is unplayable until KG et al fixes it.

I have a thread with my tests and workarounds if you want to try them.
Please provide a link to your thread.

Also, in my game 4, I did suspect script loading, see here https://simsettlements.com/site/ind...blem-update-4-potential-bug.11650/#post-81756 and I did try different workarounds/steps including waiting for extended periods of time, but with no success.

PS: I have been fortunate, in that, my game 4 I played for approx 160 hours and my game 5 played for approx 110 hours, before problems occurred for which no workaround could be found.

Completely agree. The Liberator stuff isn't working super great for me at the moment either. Just tried 'liberating' Tenpines and ended up with a stuck assault quest...again. And I never visited it until the assault. Curious, is everyone using just RotC city plans or are the assault issues only happening on non RotC plans? Haven't tried to take a RotC city yet as the ones closets RNG'd to non RotC for whatever reason.

Last post on this thread is where I posted my final test results and how I worked around the solidermanager script issue. If no one else is reporting it, then it must just be me in that case.

I have SE as well. If my workaround didn't work for you then I guess it's not a workaround, gah. Hmmm. Stupid question, but did you try killing Mr. Abernathy? There were some settlements when playing as a conqueror where I had to kill key settlers in order to take the settlement or the assault quest would not end. That settlement near atom cats was one of them. Especially if they were in that enslaved state where half of the settlers are on their knees tied up. Weird thing that, but it worked in that particular case. Seems a lot of things can go bonkers with this system, and I'm starting to wonder of mods like NPCs patrol and SKK Random Encounter Manager are having an affect near settlements like they do on NPCs during quests.

Oh man, after a while, they all went down. It was like Genghis Khan rode through there. Maisey the cat, Clarabelle that damned stubborn cow, the whole Abernathy family, the poor helpless settlers I was there to liberate... everyone died. Twice. Then with fire.

I give up. Several Tenpines tests again, fail. So it seems random, or I'm just an idiot. Maybe both. Time to put the liberator playthrough on the back burner. Having to reload over and over again in hopes that the assault won't bork out kind of kills the fun. Back to raiding.

I did the same thing with my Liberator play through.
A bit of consolation though, kinggath is actively working on a fix for it. So a patch to fix this is likely due very soon.

Pretty amazing what he's done for fallout 4. Bethesda should hire him to develop systems for fallout 5 and elder scrolls 6. Only reason I still play this silly game is because of the mechanics he's implemented.

Success - the fourth attempt. Here are the steps that worked for me this time:
  1. Reloaded a save before the first sniping/attack of the guards.
  2. With Danse sniped/attacked the Raider guards - one guard was on top of the overpass and 2 Mr. Gutsy had been previously killed. NEW STEP - after searching the site for any other defenders, used the console command "kah" and the remaining defenders were killed, wherever they were, and received the message that Graygarden was now allied.
  3. Fast traveled to Oberland and used the Field Command Center to start a vassal assault on Graygraden. The assault messages appeared in the proper order.
  4. Fast traveled to Jalbert, told Danse to stay, and joined the BoS warriors.
  5. Assaulted Graygarden and had a good firefight (15 BoS warriors and me vs 15 Raiders, all the robots and 8 civilians).
  6. Immediately saved after receiving the message the assault was successful, but spent too much time "looking around" and then received the message that Graygarden was no longer allied.
  7. Reloaded the save and immediately fast traveled to/from Oberland and everything at the moment is Ok.

Same problem here, currently standing at Abernathy Farm and no defender left yet "subdue the remaining defender"

What I recognised is that there already were two factions fighting when I came into the mix.

just hang around in the settlement for a while - it could be, hopefully, just a bit of script lag - if there's no change, i'd estimate, based on what i know so far, that your game is possibly broken.

hang around in the settlement - don't sleep or anything like that - just leave your character in the settlement for 30-60-90 real world minutes and see what, if anything, occurs.

I am pretty sure I have script lag, however it only seems to affect Conquorer

Jammer often takes long to respond, quests sometimes take long to end.

I waited a long time (around 20 minutes) at Abernathy Farm, nothing happened.

All other mods that I have that add scripts do not suffer from script lag so far - I am pretty sure about that because I had some of them affected by script lag in the past.

wait longer?
also - use fallrim tools to see if any of your scripts have completed?

Wait longer? I don't want to come off as rude, but I really don't have the time or will to stand somewhere waiting for a quest to trigger eventually. I hope that Kinggath includes something to skip instances like this when errors like this occur.

About the Fallrim option: What would I have to look for? I know how to load up the tool but that's about it.

well you asked for help - that's the help - its up to you if you want to do it or not, i don't have a dog in the fight, so i'm easy either way.
if you don't want to wait - don't. play on. simple.

What you call help, lol.

Btw, I tested the whole thing a third time, this time I let SKK Script Lag latency detector running - and it told me there was no script latency detected. Doesn't that basically mean like... there is no script lag in that moment?

when you say "what you call help" what do you mean exactly?
As far as i can tell you've posted up nothing of value other than you can't kill a mob. No indication of load order, no indication if you've added/removed mods, no indication of any other kind of insight. so the "help" you can receive is only as good as the information you provide.
you provide very little - the help - as much help as you can get is what i gave you. Wait around and check for backed up scripts.

do it, don't do it, but don't call people out for trying to help you when you've given them nothing to work with.

If you've tried to use fallrim and it shows nothing then you have two choices

1. play on.
2. start a new game.

the choice is yours. good luck with whatever you choose.

"You provide very little - the help - as much help as you can get is what i gave you"

I love when people are like "I could ask you for some additional information - but instead, I give you a solution that is bad and when you call me out for it I blame you because you didn't give me enough information in the first place"

Idk why you feel to act like this, because it only feels like creating some forum heat instead of contributing to the actual problem/topic. Also you ignored those parts of my answered that tried to forward the discussion.
