General Conqueror Questions from a noob

Okay - so I read the wiki (I think it's pretty out of date, right?), watched some YouTube videos, and then watched Kingarth's monstrous 2.75hr video he did back in July; I feel a little more educated on Conqueror and how things work. But after conquering my first settlement for Jammer last night I have a few questions.

1) I chose Starlight as my outpost. I chose max men. Jammer told me to get my butt over there to start the attack. I walk over there from Red Rocket; there are no attackers. There's no attacker marker. Starlight kicks off, I engage, I kill the targets. *THEN* the max-crew of warriors shows up all huddled in one corner of Starlight. A few of them are animating. Most aren't.

Now, in a previous game I attacked Hangman's Alley and had a similar experience: I turn up, my crew is there, I walk up to them, try to talk to them, but the attack doesn't kick off ... they don't move, they don't do anything.

From watching videos yesterday I can see that the attacking crew is MEANT to launch an assault, but for me they're not. They just hang about.

Are there any known mod conflicts I should be aware of or a known gotcha for sort order?

2) Happiness.
From Kinggarth's video he made it clear that you can ignore the numbers on the top of the screen for an outpost: food, water, defense etc. Personally seeing all red there drives me nuts, and then my warriors started to complain about lack of beds ... so *can* these numbers be ignored for happiness levels, or should I endeavor to keep them in the green as well? I trust KG, but my OCD is kicking in ...

3) The Conqueror HUD at the bottom of the screen: I know KG explained this during his 2.75hr video, but post video I've forgotten 90% of what he said. Is there a guide or something somewhere that explains the HUD? You know, picture, arrows for us simple folk.

1) It sounds like an AI issue. Too many NPCs in one area for the game to handle, so they are just standing there in a pile. Or, too many scripts firing off at once causing the problem.

How many settlements did you build up? What starting levels did you go with? I personally had to experiment with what my PC and the game with my loaded mods could handle. I ended up with a 50 - 80% build from foundation to level 2. When I tired 100% build from foundation to level 3, I had similar problems. I usually only get 1 settlement to level 3, which is my main base.

Do you have a lot of scripting mods? I love Better Locational Damage, for example, but my PC just can't handle it with SS.

2) It drives me crazy too. And if they are in the red, I have found your raiders WILL whine at you constantly. Those numbers control happiness, which does make a difference if you wish to upgrade plots in your base. Or, you can turn that off in the SS holotape and happiness won't effect it. BUT, the raiders will still complain. Endlessly.

As far as beds go, the number of beds you have is directly tied to how many raiders you can recruit. So, if you give Jammer a bunch of drugs and caps for more guys, unless you have open beds for them they will never show up. Just throw down a few extra vanilla beds. That is what I do. It's also a good way to control how many people you have. You don't want 72 raiders at your main base. Your game will go up in flames. :focus

3) Not that I know of, but here. lol. Hope this helps.

You rock hard core.

1) yeah, I was coming to the same conclusion. I visited the optimization/performance page of SS and bumped up some of my ini numbers, and started to cut back on scripted mods. At the time I was assaulting a level 1 Starlight Cinema with no other settlements built up (fairly new game). But, last night I did an assault on Abernathy to make it a vassal, did it with 5 guys, and it worked marvelously.

2) right. Thanks for the hints. I'll do that. I need to just throw down bed rolls and forget worrying about the comfort of those whiners!

3) this is great actually, thanks.

1. That is either major script lag or you have a conflict of some sort. If you have anything that alters npc combat behaviour I would start with that.

2. That is not correct, raiders have to kept fed and watered just like settlers, I spoke about this with KG only yesterday. No upgrades of city plans or plots will happen unless you keep settlement happiness up and that can't be done if the population is hungry and thirsty.

3. There's a guide to Conqueror in the works, until that's done here are the basics: Concentrate on the 3 bars on the right, don't worry about the other side for now. They are Wages, Rations and Equipment (WRE) They are what you need to keep your gang supplied and to be able to recruit more.
Each one is related to certain plot types:
Wages = commercial plots.
Rations = agricultural
Equipment = Industrial

Have enough of these across all your outpost/vassals to fill those meters, as your gang grows you will need more of each to keep them supplied.

1) What other mods are you using? Like Phil said, anything that messes with combat could be a good place to start. I can't use BLD but KG does with no issues. The only things I use for combat are Melee World and Unarmed Gameplay Overhaul.

2) Make sure you turn off Soldier Needs in the SS-Conq menu if you don't want to worry about feeding them. If that is on, you won't be able to recruit until all your bars are full. I personally love the idea, but have very few hours to game per-week. I have it turned off so I'm not grinding for 3 real time months before I can do anything. lol.

3) No problem.

You guys rock the house. Seriously, this is like the friendliest and most helpful forum I have ever encountered on the internet and it never ceases to make me feel all warm and fuzzy. Seriously guys, bigs hugs all around for every one of you. This is all great advice, cheers.
