Fallout 4 - free weekend and discounts

I saw this early this morning. Frustrating. I've been a console, both Xbox & PS4, player only for about 2 years. Yesterday, I received my new & first (non-casual use) computer. Got it running and installed FO4, after purchasing the game and season pass at full price last night. Should have waited for the discount.

Now I need a crash course in installing/using mods on a PC. I'm a fish, or frog, out of water.

Kermit - the easiest way to get started is to use the Mods menu in game. Though most of us PC players use Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) or Mod Organizer.

If you go to support, you should see the option "It's now available cheaper."
I've never used it, but it might be worth a look.

Now maybe I can get Season Pass because $50 way too goddammed much for that :poo:.

Looks like Season Pass is 40% off ($29.99), which is good I guess. I was hoping it was going to be more like 50% or 60% off.

Fun story: I got Fallout 4 last year when it was 50% off ($29.99) and I cashed in 22,000 Speedy Rewards Points for a $20 Steam gift card, so I got the base game for a mere $9.99.

Alas, I only have about 12,000 points right now. I wonder if it's cheaper to just buy a bunch of candy bars for the additional bonus points...

Thanks Kinggath & JtBryant!!

Good news, Kinggath, is that when you said NMM, I knew what you meant. I'm making progress lol.

I do have a question, and I know it's likely a ridiculous one, for anyone willing to answer. I've read that I need to make the following happen before the game will recognize the mods.

C: > Users > [Your Profile] > My Documents > My Games > Fallout 4

In Fallout4.ini, repalce the line sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\ (under the [Archive] section), with:

sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, TEXTURES\, MUSIC\, SOUND\, INTERFACE\, MESHES\, PROGRAMS\, MATERIALS\, LODSETTINGS\, VIS\, MISC\, SCRIPTS\, SHADERSFX\

In Fallout4Prefs.ini, scroll to the bottom to find the [Launcher] section. Directly beneath the [Launcer] header, enter:

bEnableFileSelection=1

Question is, does this need to be done if using NMM and/or Bethesda.net?

I promise not to ask endless questions and apologize for hijacking this thread.

Thanks for the discount tip, Altairp!!

Thank you for this thread! I might not have noticed the sale without it, and now I can start using the DLC-enabled add ons for Sim Settlements! (Honestly, that and robot minions were my largest motivations for grabbing the season pass.)

No you shouldn't need to make those changes if you're using Nexus Mods or Bethesda. I would recommend just using the Bethesda mods if you're just getting started. Nexus Mod Manager can be a bit intimidating and confusing if you're new to modding.

Thanks Gregthebunny!

Kermit, if you bought it on Steam and haven't played for 2 hours yet, you can refund it and rebuy it. Otherwise, contact support.

I believe the policy used to be if it went on sale within 7 days of purchase, so you

Robot minions ftw!

Much thanks, Mytigio! I've not played at all yet so I'll give that a whirl

Yes, it was confusing, but I have now gotten there, mostly. I say "mostly" because I seem to have broken NMM.

I began playing on Saturday with ~60 mods, all obtained through Nexus. Everything was great until I got over-confident in my newfound & amateur ability. I wanted Place Everywhere and quickly learned that F4SE was needed as there is no Place Anywhere as there is on Xbox. Anywho, long story short is that in the process of getting/installing F4SE, I decided to move all my game stuff from C: to D:. Well, I did something wrong, maybe the whole idea was wrong idk. Now everything seems to need to be downloaded manually. I did manage to get that figured out with F4SE & the mods on D:, but I'm unable to fix the ability to download with NMM.

In any event, thanks to all who kindly offered tips, suggestion and the like! Hope everyone had a great weekend!

For some great tutorials on how to use NNM, and modding in general go watch GopherGaming on youtube. His NMM tutorials are on Skyrim and are rather old now, but they are still relevant.

Thanks Schmidy! He's got a video specifically on F4SE and was how I was able to get that done. His video made it a breeze. It was my own hair-brained idea that turned it to custard lol.

I should not have allowed myself to get so far behind the times. Lesson learned.

Good news is that I can finally leave the NW quadrant of the Commonwealth without the game crashing, even with several texture/visual enhancing mods running; it's fantastic!

Thanks again!

Spoke too soon, I've killed it. The game, by my own doing has fallen apart. Located all of the FO4 stuff as well as Nexus and uninstalled it all completely. Reinstalling now and won't make the same mistakes as last time. Starting with installing it to the correct drive.

Sadly making those mistakes will only make things better in the future. I've been through it as well.

Hope things get sorted and you are back up and running soon!

Thanks Schmidy - So far, much better! You're absolutely correct, my errors led to me learning, and learning quickly, what I did wrong, how and why. Certainly have loads more to learn but all is working very well so far. Just this morning I learned how to fix a glitch/bug that plagued me on both consoles too; characters' brown faces.

On another note, I want to thank you Kinggath, and all the add-on mod creators, fantastic work!!!
