Dialogue with settlers and local traders

Good afternoon. A small problem from the very beginning of the game: there is no dialogue function with settlers and traders other than [TRADE]. That is, I go up to any settler, press E, and the settler’s equipment menu opens and that’s it. Can you tell me what the problem is?

This probably isn't the right section of the forums for this question, but I'll try to start helping you, and hopefully this post will get moved to the appropriate section for more help.

To start, will you please post your loadorder.txt and plugins.txt files (either as attachments or under the spoiler tag; if you are not familiar with these files, typically they can be found at something like C:\Users\"your name"\AppData\Local\Fallout4)? I haven't seen this particular issue in SS2, which makes me think that there might be a conflict of some kind, and those files will give the community here a place to start helping you. Also, are you using the most current FO4 version (the Next Gen Update), or are you using the pre-update version?
 
I'm getting this issue as well, up until now I thought this was intentional. I'm currently stuck on 'Who can? ASAM!' with 'Meet Stodge and his people at...'. Everyone seemed to have arrived, and Stodge is marked as mayor, but when I try to talk to them, it just opens the trade window.

I'm not noticing anything that jumps out at me as a compatibility issue - but I do wonder about Salvage Beacons. A version of Salvage Beacons is included in SS2, so I'm not sure if using the old file could be creating compatibility issues. It really shouldn't to the extent that it would affect dialogue choices though. There's also a lot of stuff here like "Ownership Fixes" and "Community Fixes" that I'm not familiar with though.

SORRY!!! I updated the game and everything worked. So obvious and stupid. Once again sorry for the mistake.

Thanks for the answer. It was my stupid mistake. You just had to update the game and the dialogues would work.

I realized after a while that SS2 includes a version of Salvage Beacons, I assume it would NOT be safe to remove it mid save?

Most of these mods are from the TMR modlist. It gets asked a lot whether SS2 is compatible with the modlist in their discord, and the answer is always a resounding yes.

EDIT: After looking at the OP, I don't think I'm having the same specific issue. I'm assuming when I activate a random settler, it's normal that my character will just ask to trade, and the game will just open up a trade window? Because I can buy from stores/store owners at my settlements just fine.

The problem I have is trying to talk to Stodge as the leader in the 'Who can? ASAM!' quest. Instead of (I'm assuming) starting a dialogue to progress through the quest, I just start a trade with him.
