Solved CTD with some building in Mega Pack Year 2

Hi everybody,

maybe someone has seen something similiar, so I'm posting here. When I try to visit Sanctuary I get a CTD. I have disabled nearly all Sim Settlements add-on packs (but IDEKs Logistics) and the error went away. I narrowed it down to Mega Pack Year 2. As soon as I remove that mod from the list, I don't get a CTD anymore. Even when enabling all other Add-On Packs. I unfortunately cannot say which building in particular is problematic because it crashes, but I can provide the savegame, so somebody is probably able to help or guide me through it. I experienced something similiar with AltairPs Animal Farm. That seems to be confirmed by other users on Nexus page.

It certainly could be a unique problem since my game is heavily modded and has lots of progress in it. So I might broke it at another point.

I don't mean to sound like a jackass but comments on nexus are not confirmation of anything. Problems/bugs get confirmed here, where they get teased out/tested.

How many settlers do you have in Sanctuary, Red Rocket and Abernathy. If using city plans what level are the plans at for those settlements?

thanks for your answer. I currently don't use any city plans at Red Rocket (12 Settlers) or Sanctuary (24 Settlers). Only Abernathy Farm is using Simple Abernathy Farm by James Bowen with currently 8 Settlers on level 0.

Oh boy that's a lot of CC content.
With that load order you are going to run into problems. Disabling the Y2 mega pack is not an indication that it is the problem, it's just that it removed some of the load off the game engine which has allowed you to continue, for now.
No going to lie, this is going to be very difficult to solve.

Start by adding this to your Fallout4Custom.ini

Next, reduce the population in Sanctuary down to 15 and consider that number a hard cap for all other settlements throughout this playthrough.
 
@GA_Darkerside Thanks for your suggestions. The guide was really interesting and gave a clue or two regarding things to remember next playthrough. I usually use LOOT all the time, especially since it is used internally by Vortex afaik. I'll try to move the patch up in the load order manually.

@Phil_T_Casual Thanks for your suggestions, too. I already modified the Fallout4Custom.ini for performance reasons earlier. So I will try reducing settlers for now and see if it makes for a more stable experience.

I already was quite surprised that I made it to ~10 realtime days without fatally messing up my game.
 
I have zero experience of it myself, but just from what I gather there are quite a few problematic CC mods. I'm not saying that any of them in your loadorder are the problem but in future playthroughs if there is a nexus alternative it's better to go with that.
 
Honestly, you're going to have a hard time to find the root cause of the ctd you face - you may well have to write the game off completely and start over, because even if you find the root cause - removing a mod mid play through does nothing except break the game.
if you start over, i'd adopt the following policy - this is based on my own experience of game breaking things;

1. remove ALL creation club content. It's really not worth it. So many issues have come about because of that stuff. The Tunnel Snakes mod did, at one time, break the first quest in the game when you meet Codsworth and go around Sanctuary killing flies - so much for better QA on that one. That issue may have been fixed, I know not, I removed all the creation club content i had when I found this to be the culprit and never downloaded another thing.
2. ensure that the UFO4P patch loads directly after the game and DLC masters.
3. If you're going to build santuary/red rocket/abernathy - build them small. Don't use city plans for them at all.
4. Limit the number of settlers in those settlements max 15 - but i tend to stop around 12 in sanctuary, 6 or 7 in red rocket and 15 in abernathy. i never go over those settler limits simply because this area is a mess and you will get some pretty bad script lag.
5. limit the number of sim settlements plots in red rocket. it's a small settlement, you can get by with some prefabs and some beds placed manually. it can suffer because if you build up sanctuary and abernathy there's some pretty nasty script lag due to the close proximity of these settlements to each other.
6. awkcr - supposed to be a 'framework' - to me it's just bloatware and very unstable bloatware at that. instead of doing one thing and doing it well, more and more features get added to it and it's constantly being patched and repatched and patched some more. i removed it from my game when they disavowed all support for problems if you use vortex. Having removed it, i have a much more stable game experience. i value longevity of play though over loads of half-baked ideas that cause more ctd's than enhanced gameplay.
you may want to look at removing valdacil's sorting. afaik that mod hasn't been updated for a long time and was superceded by vis-g.
that's my suggestions to you in terms of reducing your modlist and hopefully giving you a more stable game as a result.
 
@1ae0bfb8 Thank you too, for your suggestions. I'll keep those in mind for my next playthrough. I wasn't aware of a newer version of VIS, so thanks for that. Regarding AWKCR, I think I can go without it just fine, so I will give it a try. Even if it means that some mods are not usable due to missing dependency.
 
There was a post and I think videos on some CC items causing issues

Creation Club Issues

This was a very lengthy chat with @zzzspina where it came down to a few CC mods causing issues and our member was kind enough to make a couple of video.

I never got a chance to look into this further, life, reworking this entire board, plus other things, we only got this far, but worth a look.

The other thing I forgot to say, i wrote a guide on it, LOOT is not 100%, it gives you a good base to work from.

i.e. Beantown interiors, puts it in the wrong place, the mod author noted that the mod should go twords the end of a load order, I ran a test and it turned out to be true.

I have no experience with Vortex, I have to admit, so I cant help you there, but CC I do and it has been known to cause quite a few issues.

You should only have one of these enabled. You're wasting plugin slots, as these all modify the same values, namely the non-lethal dismemberment chance on body parts.

Insane-o: 70% chance
Liebermode: 10%
Mental: 85%
Mind-blowing: 100%
Postal: 100%
Regular: 25%

Not sure if these values are the same for all body parts, but again, you're wasting 5 extra plugin slots.

Issues with the 'triangle of death': explains so much... I always build a pretty large settlement at Sanctuary. It does lag later in the game, particularly should I make it my raider HQ. 34 people... :oops::explode:
 
i took another look at your mod list and i noticed you make use of workshop rearranged.

i used that a long time ago and it was a good idea, but it made changes to some things which i didn't really like. plus it really didnt play well with a lot of mods and there were any number of patches to make it work, which just added overhead.
in the end, i removed it from my modlist.

now - you can download and make use of the simsettlements builders toolkit which could replace workshop rearranged and its other mods.

from the perspective of saving you more load order slots, this would be a no-brainer for me. you have the builders toolkit which contains, i think 15,000 items (or thereabouts) a lot of which are included in workshop rearranged.

It might be something for you to consider. as good as workshop rearranged is, it does come with a slight overhead of patches that cost mod slots.

one other thing; better settlers, should, i believe, be right near the bottom of your load order. i recall that i added that to the 'dynamic patches' group in vortex's group manager, which ensured that it loaded near to the end of my load order.

if you move better settlers, and azar pony tails further down your load order, that will be a good thing, although still not the root cause of the issue of your glitches.
 
What patches are needed for Workshop rearranged? @1ae0bfb8
I always use it outside of contest builds and I would say it is the best workshop mod by far, nothing come close to how useable it is.

I love PBP, it's fantastic, but for the average user WR is the better option imo.
 
its been a long time since i used it, but i recall there was a patch required for ethreon's master plan mod, also there were patches for other mods that changed things in the workshop menu.

i think there are patches required for the creation club stuff - i havent used WR in a long time, and removed all the CC stuff from my game a while back, so don't know if that is still an issue or not.

Another couple of patches were required for autodoors, i think the bubble turret set, atomic radio, a few workshop mods like colored lights, dino decorations and a couple of others.

it's been ages since i used it however, and i recall when i went with the decision to remove it and its fixes i had several slots free in my load order (which i filled with other useless garbage).

i agree with you, WR is a great mod, but it changes a lot of things, perks and requirements by default which i didn't really like, but it is what it is. anyway, as simsettlements grows, i'm looking to trim my load order. i have so many transfer settlement blueprints that i'd like to share, but when i save them, it's 40+ mods to make it work, which means it's pretty much a no-go unless someone has my exact load order.

in streamlining my mod list, i'm hoping to make blueprints that can be downloaded by anyone who plays sim settlements, and about 10 other common building mods. at the same time, i'm finding my game is a lot more robust, and if i find issues, i'm having to search through fewer and fewer mods to try and find the root cause.

anyway, these are just suggestions, in no way am i saying use mod x over mod y or you're doing it wrong. :)
 
Yeah I can see other mods needing patches to work with it now that you mention it, but honestly it brings so much to the table I would say the onus is on authors of single workshop items to get their stuff to play nice with it. The author also ensures it works with SS so that's another plus from me.

I only use WR and PBP, it's so easy to get bogged down in having way too many workshop mods that can in all honesty can be done without, so if I ever was to release TS blueprints 'twould be simple.
 
Just as a follow up to my original question: I reduced the number of settlers in sanctuary and also removed some add-on packs. My game is pretty stable again since then, with the occasional random ctd.
