CTD has ruined my save :(

First, I've set my load order with LOOT and everything seems to be alright on that front. Second, I've added the Papryus lines to Fallout4Custom.ini per KingGath's instructions. All to no avail.

Here's the situation. I can load the save (actually one of a couple) and all is fine for about a minute or two. Everything seems to load up as one would expect. Even the settler needs bars on the left spring to life. Then BOOM... CTD. I suspect its Sim Settlement related because in that minute or two, if I go to a Sim Settlement work bench and click the terminal, the holotape fails to load. However, I can access the holotape manually with my pipboy and it comes up fine.

I've had this same issue on a past save way back when Sim Settlements was still in its infancy. I used the holotape to nuke all my settlements and the issue was solved. I'd really like to avoid that this time around.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks!

Since you can load in for a minute; if you fast travel away to a non-settlement, does the crash still occur?

Well, I ported to Diamond City per your suggestion your highness :). Everything was smooth as could be. Then I took a walk to the nearest settlement that had Sim Settlement structures in it. Got a CTD once I got within a couple thousand feed of it (estimate). So I think the answer to your question would be no. Things are fine when I'm not near a Sim Settlement.

Appreciate the reply!

Just a note: I have been doing a play through using Minuteman Empire as a based save game... with my mods and some others I am trying out.... I ran into a lot of CTD's in Far Harbor because I wanted to do some settlement building up there (good to get out of the commonwealth!) ...

That was FO4 game version 1.9.0 and FO4SE 4.0 .... my game after the CTD's, in which I was about to throw in the towel.... got accidentally updated to 1.10.40 ... couldn't revert, went with the update, updated mods for the new creation club, FO4SE 6.0 ... I also went ahead and downloaded the UnOfficial Fallout 4 Patch - supposedly for the latest releases (I had determined UFO4 patch was causing my CTD's around CIT and the wreck north of Diamond City).

Reloaded my far harbor game I was playing... no CTD's ...

Might be work a try. Not sure if it will help Elvis... but I even noticed smoother SS in settlements... (perception is only mine, of course)

I do have Minutemen Empire installed. I'll be sure and remove it when I get home later. Certainly worth a try. Thanks for the input!

Realize, taking out mods mid game might be problematic. From what I hear, unofficial patch is an all or nothing proposition. Usually from a new game installed is best... or not installed. However, with my game updates and latest version of unofficial, my game is "fine"... I say that tentatively...

If you can play outside of settlements - try disabling all of the Performance Options in the Sim Settlements holotape, wait about 10 minutes and then try walking into a settlement again.

You sir have hit the nail on the head. I disabled all performance options per your instructions and the CTD's have stopped! One side note, however... the Sim Settlement workbench is still unable to access the holotape. I'll be deleting and rebuilding it later this evening and see one happens.

I'll also begin the process of turning different performance options back on one by one to see what I can and can not have active. I'm hoping the NPCs are the main issue, since I'll be leaving them off anyways until they're more functional. Any input on what options are the more 'heavy hitters' to system performance would be a great help. My system is what I would call mid-ranged.

i7-4770k
24GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760
Win10 Pro (64-bit)

Also, I feel I should take a quick moment here and thank KingGath for his most amazing mod! It single handedly has turned a great game into a legendary game in my mind. I'd be amazed if Fallout 5 doesn't include a heavily inspired system. Pure genius, honestly.

Thanks for everyone's input in saving my save. I'm very grateful.

Clutter is the hardest hitter as it adds a boatload of polygons and hits your video card pretty hard. Next up would be Detailed lights.

If you're using a lot of plots from my mod, I also have quite a bit of stuff that can be turned off in "Detailed Models" because robot parts chew up a lots and lots of polygons (in some cases individual statics can be 20 or 30 thousand polygons, so that kind of stuff I categorized as Detailed Models to be disabled separately.)
