Castle city plan question, possible quest spoilers

I remember reading somewhere on the ss forums that it's best to wait to start the castle city plan until after a specific quest, due to the city plan breaking something quest related? If this is true, then when is the safest time to start the city plan?

P.S. please no end game spoilers :) I belong to the minority of players who haven't finished the game yet

IF you've never finished the game... then do not build the Castle.
It mucks with every quest tied to the castle.

BTW.. that is the only City Plan I recommend never building. All the rest are kool as sliced bread. :)

I think I found the answer but haven't tried it in game yet. Is the quest Old Guns?

One of the things I found that completing Old Guns did was to automagically clear all the mirelurk debris from the castle, which I was unable to do manually (at least, without a scrap mod). And if you use the console to finish Old Guns you see a whole bunch of other quests start and finish in the HUD.

(I'm not saying a scrap mod will clear the mirelurk debris, I never tried it.)

A scrap mod clears some of the mirelurk debri - not all though. Thankfully it does get cleared, for a while there I was wondering if I'd be wading around through seaweed and gunk for forever in the place.

@TheDroidIsMissing - like you, I've not completed the game yet. I'm about to start building a Castle plan that (hopefully) will not break the quests, using my game as a guinea-pig.

IF it works (no promises) it's not going to be available any time soon. As @woodfuzzy says, don't do any RotC castle builds yet.

Yep.. just like the airport has 3 I think.. kinda of forget atm
Oh... that removes all the nasty stuff and leaves the eggs.. they be loot!

If you haven't finished Old Guns, it causes Ronnie Shaw to despawn for some reason, making beginning the quest impossible.

Thanks for the advice everyone! As much as I don't want to, I'll put the castle on hold for this playthrough :/

Another question: In a previous save after I took back the castle, I noticed the minutemen who survived the mirelurk fight became settlers. That being said, do you get minutemen settlers when you start the castle city plan, or normal settlers?

Normal settlers. I like the Minutemen ones though - very appropriate to a military installation.

You can turn off the recruitment beacon and add your own Minutemenmen
with the We Are The Minutemen mod and workbench. The workbench
will also allow you to craft mm clothing. WATM mod will also give you MM
decorative stuff as well as MM patrols that visits your settlements.

I don't know if this mod is available on other platforms then PC/Nexus.
