Carnal is a no-show

The quest "say cheese" finally is able to progress with dylan giving me the camera, but Carnal never shows up. She isn't sandboxing around town, going to church or in fallons. I'm sure if i could just console command her in she would work fine, but she is nowhere to be found. Does anybody know her ID to console or what might be conflicting with this? the only two mods i have for super mutants are a mesh edit to make them bigger (which works on all the other NPC supermutants) and Super Mutant Redux.

I have the same problem. I tried spawning in a new Carnal by doing a player.placeatme just to verify she's loading in correctly.
she speaks, etc. but even if I spawn a new copy of her in the Fallon shop, the quest will continue to skip over her dialogue.

I think it's a bug with the quest scripts or something tbh, I parked all my followers before entering the store as well.

Yeah, I noticed Carnal isn't showing up in my game either. I've had her show up in a previous playthrough and IIRC she's not important to any quests (maybe I'm wrong since I don't think I've seen every side quest) so I've just ignored it. I don't have Super Mutant Redux or any mods that affect super mutants.

Is it possible that it's a regression from the latest changes?

For what it's worth, I am using the No SS2 extended version.

also for an update, I moved to where carnal was at, and she was dead inside some sort of holding zone.
I attempted to do a recycleactor and 'resurrect 1' on her prior to starting the Say Cheese quest but she still didn't spawn during the conversion with Dyllan

weird, if I do a test run by using the SS2 cheats to skip to a certain part of the questline to unlock "Say Cheese", carnal spawns.

However, in a playthrough where I waited to do it until "Where There's Smoke", carnal is dead.

So there is some sort of discrepancy between using cheats to skip SS2 quests vs. naturally progressing and doing 'Say Cheese' later on in the SS2 main questline.

EDIT: improper testing by me, disregard.

Okay, I think I identified a problem. It indeed is a mod compatibility issue, specifically combat overhaul mods.

My previous testing I realized I didn't have Damn Apocalypse's combat module active, I was testing out another combat mod at the time. which gave me a red herring.

The reason why Carnal is a no-show / dead in the placeholder cell is because her record has 0 healthpoints. If you use a mod that changes how the HP formula works that doesn't use leveled HP (Damn Apocalypse's combat module in my case), that 0 HP makes Carnal dead on game initialization, and borks the quest in general. I've tried a bunch of setstage, resurrects, recycleactors, etc. and it won't fix the quest in an existing save.

I tested this by starting a new game and using the skip quest cheat. In one save with the combat overhaul mod, carnal was dead and didn't spawn in Fallon's basement.

In a second save I manually edited Carnal's NPC record to give her a non-zero healthpoints (50 for example), did the cheat skip, and the quest was working like intended.

Seeing how Carnal's HP is insignificant gameplay-wise, giving her something trivial like a base 50 HP in her record would help a lot of users with their mod load order compatibilities @kinggath

Does any of you have a save file you can send me? msalaba showed me the likely cause, but it does not happen for me - so guessing it's a load order dependent issue.

I should be able to resolve it for Friday's patch if one of you can send me your .fos save today!

Here you go!
I snooped around and some more and noticed there were more NPCs with 0 Healthpoints in their records, so I think a mod like Damn Apocalypses' combat overhaul probably just isn't compatible.

Did you find a way to quickly identify 0 health NPCs? If so, I can adjust all their records. I'm not sure why any of them are set up that way - but it definitely wasn't intentional. Was likely the result of a bad merge or someone on the team changing the templates, not realizing the NPC was getting their health from the previous template.

When I was looking into this, I noticed the SuperMutant race has 0 HP defined. The vanilla records set this value in an actor template. Carnal does not use a template, so its using the default race value for HP.

I did look at all other SS2 actors with the SuperMutant race. They all have HP > 0 (SS2 & SS2CH2 loaded)

Maybe setup a SS2_SuperMutantTemplate to prevent this in the future? Although that could be a PITA as it seems you need to use an actor template to change an AV defined in a template... :todd:

As for finding records, maybe use the AT - Quick Display xEdit script? You could export EDID and Health AV fields to a csv and filter for 0 HP.
Its kinda clunky to use, but its pretty powerful. I use it a lot to dump stuff to a csv so I can sort and filter to find what I'm looking for. i.e. the time I helped Cessori find all SS2 recruitable NPCs.

I want to piggyback on this. Carnal kinda died a few game days ago, I believe during a Raider attack in Concorde. I've finished the main Ch 2 plotline. Their body is lying in the street by the hardware store. Do they matter in the ongoing plot in Chapter 3? Should I res them?
