Caravan (size does matter?) -> small plot is working - big plot is not

So I thought, lets go big and wanted to upgrade my small caravan plot to a bigger 2x2 one

But it says "No other in range"

small caravan plot builds
03F27586DB082A3293DD25E5FEA5AA6D43254CDC

and small caravan plot can connect "Drive In" to "Red Rocket"
C9D1F16D021E6B8AFE6DC06778EB58B01266CB5B

Is that so?
  • Only small caravan plots can connect to small caravan plots?
  • big caravan spots can only connect to big caravan plots? (untested)

Hmm
There is no benefit using a big caravan spot (unlike water/power).
That would make big caravan spots quite useless, no?
Did I miss a memo and got it all wrong?

Take Lily's advice and kick the plot.
Sometime just picking the plot up and dropping it refreshes it and then it connects.

Plot size does not matter interior and 2x2 have the same effect unless they allow multiple people to use them.

ah, tyvm! Small Caravan it is then :grin :agree:

I guess the same goes for communications? small version is all you need, right?

Well it all depends on the settlement and the look you are going for.
That is next, I try. Hopefully the communication does not care if small or 2x2...
I yet have to get my first beacon to work... Now I have to wait that caravan grows up again
Needs to be level 2 to work, right?

Is there a mod for overview of the settlement already?
I easy make 3 plots for agi and forget about int, doh :grin
like

homes
single homes 12
homes used 11

water
water plots 2 - 20 water
water pumps 1 - 10 water
water total 30
water used 29

food
farms plots 4 - 45 food
food total 45
food used 44
food unstaffed 1 plots for 10 total

power
power plots 2 - 20 power
power generator 3 - 20 power
power total 40
power used 39
power unmanned 2 plots for 60 total

Recreational
happy 3
agi 1
per 4
int 0
...

Hmm
Is there a good tutorial - "Simple Mods for Dummies"?
and maybe the successor "Dummies do SS2 modding in Texas"?:grin

I easy make 3 plots for agi....
If all you have is 3 guards, you only need the one AGI recreational plot. You just have to wait for it to level to add more people.
Recreational plots add a slot for an occupant each level.

Also keep in mind water plot have three levels, basic, advanced, and hitech. An advanced water plant starts with producing 100 water. While a level 3 basic water plot is like 70 water. So you need to just swap the plots later on. The same with water or food.

ah, okay, thanks for the info. So better progress the plots, than to build 4 small ones..
guess i need to shoot some settlers with the vita-gun. "all come here, It will not hurt. Its fro the greater good" :D

I need to check the wiki more often :grin

Just had a ss2-miniquest for the industrial scrab plot. teaching me about advanced scrabbing...
nice work kinggath and kingteam!

FYI Tommyk, for the most part the size doesn't change the plot function. The sizes are to give you choice, bigger doesn't always (or even often) = more output or anything like that. I was talking to kinggath about this a few days ago while I considered balancing for my add on and he explained that the primary balance isn't in size, but rather based on the number of workers. 3x3 plots produce "more" not because they are bigger, but because more people work them, so there is a multiplier to their output based on how many folks are currently working the plot.

If you made a 1x1 with 10 worker slots, it would produce 10 times the output of a standard plot.

Having said all of this, a plot builder can make a 1x1 that has 100 times the output of a 3x3 if they want to, so even that general rule above is really just the general concept of how things work, because the plot outputs are ultimately decided by the plot builders.

The plots and sizes are about fitting the aesthetic of the settlement. In hangman's alley i have an interior comms plot and caravan. It's a small area, too compact for a big one. In Starlight I have a 2x2 because i need to fill up some space and the variety in the look and feel of plots is nice to have.

Ok guys I think you’re all also missing a potential bug in there. I also seem to be unable to connect my 2x2 to my 1x1s. I’ve tried building two of each plus two interior caravans and I ended up with two networks. The 2x2s connected with one interior plot and the 1x1s with the other.

Hmmm, I will have to see once I build in Hangman's Alley. I use 2x2 everywhere else.

Where are you getting the 1x1 caravan plots from?

I have a mix of both 2x2 and interiors and they all connect, so I agree it sounds like you have a bug, but not sure what might be causing it.

Atm I have 2x2 caravans in Sanctuary, Red Rocket, Grey Garden, Starlight and I have Interior caravans in Hangman's Alley and Aberanthy Farms, and all of the settlements connect into a single network.

Texans might take offense to that. They would be like, "Boy y'all done just crossed the line!"

Besides, they don't do SS2 in Texas. There are only beers, steers and q%**rs... and you don't have horns. I'm not telling how I know this.

I created interior caravan inside a cave ( Vault 119 - https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/17463 ) and it doesn't connect to other Commonwealth 2x2 caravan plots. Is this normal?
Kick it. Grab the and drop it, that causes the plot to refresh.
Sometimes the caravan plots have to be refreshed in order to get connected.

In other words, Lily was right, kicking does help.

But I love Texas! :heart Was referring to a movie from 1978... Dummy, Debbie, Dallas, Texas...:grin I hope I get away with a formal warning... 0:D

Does a 2x2 in the cave connect? Is the cve close enough to one of your other settlements with a caravan plot to connect?

I'm not sure much testing has been done with mod-added settlements, so it's hard to know if that's contributing in this case.

I haven’t been able to kick the plot as Bored Peon suggested. But before, I created Caravan Plot in the Vault 119, which is located far north east, near Nakano Residence. I noticed that the caravan line doesn’t created with The Slog, and then I tried create 2x2 plot in Coastal Cottage, and still no line established to the cave plot, while the line between Coastal Cottage and other near settlements are establised. Gave up after that, I scrapped the interior plot.

Edit: I haven’t created 2x2 plot in the cave. Maybe I’ll try later just for curiosity sake. For me, big 2x2 with brahmins in the cave is rather immersion breaking.

Usually after it is first built I have had to kick/refresh them and wait a few minutes for scripting to enable it.

Also make sure you have enough water production, a lack of water can make the operating costs not met.
Same thing with making sure the assigned worker stayed on the plot. Had an issue today with 0-MOR assaultron i assigned to one in Graygarden decided to abandon the job.

My Interior caravan connected just fine today to other settlements witht heir 2x2s.

I have not gotten around to testing the CC VR workshops yet. I know IDEK's used to connect them, but IDEK was not range limited.
Been avoiding the VR since the free build and easy growth seems like cheating, lol.
