Not sure if this is a bug but when I assigned cait as leader of Jamaican plains she started to walk away down the road even though she was with me at the time. I reelected her as leader and she went back to settlement but now I can't find her. Is there an option to find where the leader is

there is in vanilla worskshop, if you have contraptions DLC, a vaultec console under electical>misc......allows you to track your companions and whereabouts.

however, i also had cait, and while she remained in the settlement, on the few occasions she took off to diamond city, i believe as part of other quest lines, but it never affected the settlement.

Doesn't sound like a bug.

Companions do take off occasionally as part of quest stages. When this happens, you should get a message saying something like "Cait don't want to be leader of Jamaican Plains any longer." For the settlement, this has the same effect as if you'd asked her to go with you; the settlement will be leaderless and the RotC auto build will freeze. However, the plots already placed there, and the settlers, the recruiting, everything that's part of the base SS mod will continue to evolve as in a non-RotC settlement.

Re finding her, if she's still the active leader, check at the blue print on the city planner's desk, you can always build a bell and summon the whole settlement.

I didn't get the "cait is not interested" message and she is still showing as leader in planners desk. She doesn't show when I call town meeting.
I'll call another meeting waiting longer. If she doesn't show up I'll try the vault tec console.
I haven't started any quests with her, but I expect she may be off to see her supplier as she's not clean yet

Well on the second town meeting she actually turned up. Looks like she is as dedicated to the job and my real local council.
