it was working fine looked into CC to see what they had for building stuff did not want to spend money on overpriced stuff (mainly only skin jobs in CC) saw 2 things that were free got those. I just went to verify load order cause scrape everything was not working right and I can not change the load order nor can LOOT

Try running NMM as an admin, it should then be able to overwrite the plugins.txt file which is probably marked Read Only atm.

I tired that still did not work there was only 2 things that were free in cc one was paint jobs for power armor and a pipboy skin I did notice there was a 606kb download for fo4 in steam but i think that was the cc stuff

Also I updated to the newest version of nmm since I was 2 versions behind

Old versions of NMM couldn't handle ESL-files. Update that added the support was a bit problematic. It is out of official support, because Nexus have moved to support new manager Vortex.

Did you make a clean installation of NMM, or just updated it? You might have obsolete files causing issues, if the update was just an upgrade to new files. Clean reinstall of NMM should fix that.

Run LOOT once outside of your mod manager. It seems to have problems to update the master list and sort the load order otherwise.

Scrap Everything should be among last files in your load order. Usually last, just before FO4Merged and Bashed Patch (if you are using them, which I do recommend.)

never heard of FO4Merged and Bashed Patch before. so have no idea what it is or does. I did not find it on nexus

No need to worry about either of them now. Let's concentrate on fixing your mod manager installation.

FO4Merged is created with FO4Edit, to merge keywords from mod files. It merges leveled lists as well.

However, we are usually removing leveled lists from FO4Merged.esp and using Wrye Bash to create Bashed Patch with it included.

I mentioned those, because sometimes mentioning to place something last in the load order has ended up people placing mod files after patches.

Just keep in mind that game does not properly merge keywords and leveled lists from mods. Depending on mods you use, you might want to check these matters out later. I will link Avrie's guide about this for future use.

i need to find the file that has the load order in it and then use loot (outside of nmm) to get the load order then use notepad++ to edit the file manually my nmm is permanently broke

Even with the latest version of NMM that handles .esl files using anything from CC breaks the ability to move your plugins by hand. This is a known issue and according to the bug reports on GitHub is unlikely to ever be fixed.

I can't speak to LOOT since I've never actually had it give me a decent sort for FO4 so I quit even trying long ago.

Right now if you're using NMM and download anything from CC you'll need to manually sort your load order outside of the mod manager. The simplest way is to export from the plugins tab then open/paste the export into a text editor like Notepad++ sort your load order, save it and then re-import the file.

This saves you finding the plugins file, changing it from read only and editing it directly.

Removing files got NMM running again? Good to hear. :good

NMM have had issues, after update that added ESL support. If this becomes an issue to you, then you could try the new mod manager for Nexus called Vortex (in open alpha), or Mod Organizer 2.1.1. (I am currently testing new build.)

Vortex is way to new for me and i thought Mod Organizer was a older version of NMM lol

But since the 2 items were only skin jobs I might not even ever use I just ripped them out and put them in another folder for safe keeping. Started up nmm and now I can change my load order

Yes, I agree with this. I have a number of CC items which of course make your load order unable to be manually sorted (I am using NMM 0.64.2 so it supports ESL's) and if I want to change mod order manually (LOOT and using load after where needed within LOOT seems to work mostly) I have to export the plugin list and import it again once done manually sorting.

Heh. Mod Organizer is far later than NMM. MO author was actually hired by Nexus to lead Vortex development. Mod Organizer 2.x series has been continued by LePresidente's team. Development team is very active. MO2.1.1 is a viable alternative for both NMM and Vortex, but it does have a wider learning curve.

Important thing is that NMM now works for you.
Have fun.

Or do what I did, just throw your hands up in frustration at all of the mod managers. Install mods manually and use the in-game mod manager to manually adjust load order. :D

Not sure this is useful, but I found (and seemed to verify in my own experience) it's not ESL's specifically, but ESL's that have specific types of dependencies. It's been awhile and I don't recall details, but ESL's sans dependencies or with only a specific kind of dependencies on ESM's would have no issue, but there was a way that can come up that breaks it.

I ended up removing some free CC skins I wasn't actually using and that fixed it for me; other ESL's worked fine.

That is what I did I just ripped the free CC stuff out put them in another folder somewhere (do not know where I put em) and have not gone back to cc there is really nothing there at all. there is only like 4 actual mods everything else is just skin jobs

Yes, it's specifically the CC stuff that breaks it. Other ESL's seem to work fine.

Not even all CC stuff. It seems to be certain types of dependencies and for some reason skins.
Actually, every time I've come across it, it's been skins; I'e heard other dependency can cause it too but that's the only ones I've actually experienced.
