Battle for Quincy

Stuck on hyde park capture, I go there, no soldiers follow me. Kill the gunners there and raiders and no update for new objective, it never counts as captured. I have tried using the binoculars and marked some targets but flare doesn't bring soldiers or start a capture objective. Any suggestions?

I know Salvador said just go over to Hyde Park and take it but it doesn't seem to work. Go over to Hyde Park and sneak in toward town without engaging so you get a "Discovered Hyde Park" super on your screen. THEN snack back away and go back to the HQ war desk or a separate outpost war desk and do a "start assault" from there via the whole "gathering your forces" thing. That should set it properly as a quest and get you a strike force over there to help out.

I suspect that you need to g through the war planning process. I visited Quincy once and killed everyone (whilst getting continually bombed from somewhere unknown) but it doesn't recognise capture maybe because it's locked into the war planning process, Plus if you do the process it can take over a day to actually kick it off.

Uh, you might not want to capture Quincy just yet. Cause.. spoilers but see the name of the thread. But for Hyde park, if you're not getting it as an objective at the desk (or Boston Checkpoint - both of those are objectives for said quest so it's probably best to hold off capturing them yet), you can go there, point your flare gun at the place, mark it and shoot it. May have to point binoculars first and "fire" them to clear any previous targets you may have had. That is, if binoculars don't work for some reason. For me flare gun was a 100% success always and binoculars are pretty slow + they don't really work on empty locations.
Oh yeah and it's not a capture if you don't use either flare gun, binoculars, desk or HQ to start an assault and summon troops.
And the continued bombing is meant to prevent exactly that. Maybe not the most elegant solution but kinda works.

Oh man, the binoculars to "mark" a target were definitely spotty but the flare gun never worked for me. Like at all. Eventually, because I'd had the Minutemen flare gun but they both show up as just "flare gun" in your inventory, I stored one of them in a place I couldn't remember and I started to wonder if the SS2 somehow delineated between the two flare guns and maybe I'd stored the WRONG one, but I couldn't find it again to do the science on it! :love

Nah, it's the same flare gun but it gets new functionality after Salvador shows that to you. I haven't had many troubles pointing it in the general location direction of the.. location.. to mark it. And once it's marked you can fire it to summon troops, but if it's not marked it will just summon minutemen.

I am having a different experience with call to arms. I took the south Boston checkpoint but even though the victory screen and cinematic ran, the quest didn't advance. I even waited (by waited I mean I stood stock still and stared at the sky for at least an hour real time and nothing.

I then went to Hyde Park, snuck up until I had discovered it, then fast traveled to a war desk. But Hyde Park was not onto the list of conquerable territories.

So I went back to Hyde Parke, targeted it and called in the troops. After we won, the appropriate cinematic and scoreboard kicked off. After the cinematic, Salvador immediately radioed and said that south Boston was secure and to head to Hyde park.

I even loaded a previous save and did both battles again with the same result.

What is up with that?

Maybe call Salvador yourself after South Boston? Could be that you went really far away from the location when the assault ended, happened to me at least. I'd suggest using "kah" command to clear the locations if you're redoing them. While that's generally discouraged and may result, ironically, in assault getting stuck and not completing, among other things, for me it was a life saver.
Edit: or log out and in after South Boston and see if that triggers it.

I tried that. All he did was make a random comment about the department. I got it to work, though. After the checkpoint I found another gunner territory to capture and once that was done he called me about going to Hyde Park.
