Anton Dead

Anton is dead embedded in the entrance of the Harbourmaster Hotel. Last seen alive in Goodneighbour. Help anyone?

Oooh! I'm going to have to try that command! I'm pretty sure Anton got killed on the way to the Harbourmaster, and now the quest is borked. I'm hoping for luck!

Thanks for the advice to try the console, but still having problems.

Recycleactor just disappeared Anton from the door, while resurrect freed him from it. So now after visiting the hotel room and checking downstairs I have five NPCs including Anton saying Hello while Knox is busy. No cut scene, no interactions.

Recycleactor made Anton disappear for me as well. Knox and a few randoms are standing in the lobby, while Audra is standing by her stash in her apartment. Both say that the individual is busy when I click on them. I would like to resolve this quest with Knox and Audra as settlers, but am not sure which command would force this ending. Any hints for this dim dude?

A thought that may help (i have not had this happen, so have not needed to try this)

  • reload save from before leaving Goodneighbor
  • use console make Anton essential
  • travel to the hotel as normal
  • after both you and Anton have zoned into the hotel, remove the essential flag from Anton

Do you have a mod that makes NPCs mortal? It could be removing the essential flag from Anton.
I'll have to double check, but I'm pretty sure the quest forces The base Actor record sets Anton to be protected. (protected means can only be killed by the player)

The quest script moves Anton to you when you enter the hotel. If he's dead, something killed him off screen.

Edit: I'm assuming some mod is causing this behavior. Only the player should be able to kill Anton.
Submitted PR #1053 to force Anton essential when the quest is first accepted.

It does look like the quest is not set up for Anton to be killed before the confrontation, so the essential flag makes more sense. I don’t have mods that make setllers mortal of things like that. All I know is that upon entering in my Captain Cosmos Power Armor, Anton was DOA at the entrance. I also travel with a companion, plus Heather and Dogmeat. I like to think that he gets crushed upon entry :grin

I wonder what killed him then. The default protected flag should make it so only the player can kill him. (or a script)
Did you sent him a mini nuke and forget about it? :p

From my experience that is not correct. He has died many times for me (I've done the quest like 3-4--5 times) and hasn't been by my weapon every time.
One time I was moving slightly ahead of him and my companion (Piper probably) and then at one point I turned around and he was missing. When I went
backed and looked for him I found him dead. Perhaps Piper got fed up with him and shot him?

so i just pulled up xEdit and dug through the esm, and anton (SS2_Anton "Anton" [NPC_:0C00EAB7]) is default protected, but not essential. so this rules out scripts running badly or quest design problems failing to set protection up.

do you have any mods that might adjust NPCs with essential or protected flags or how those flags work? killable children and the like?
edit: fixed intent per below confusion

So one thing about protected is it does not always work if there's an explosion situation, like if the player shoots a truck or something and then it blows up with Anton next to it that seems to be enough to override the "protected" even if raiders also shot the truck. That is how I have lost Anton a bunch of times because there are a few explodable vehicles and such around harbormaster hotel. Could also be that maybe the protected flag is removed from Anton earlier than intended.

All right so I went back to an earlier save, failed to notice that Anton wasn't following me anymore at some point, so his dead body gets teleported to the entrance. I tried using the resurrect, recycleactor and resetai commands to get him up before entering the hotel, but he refuses to move, which seems to cause failure later on. The scene downstairs jus't wont fire up after inspecting the terminal. I'm out of ideas, except for skipping the quest (which I don't mind doing, if there is an option for that quest).

Edit: Nope, I don't think that quest can be skipped. I really should pay attention to Anton and stop killing him by accident while tying to get to the location, heh

you absolutely can skip this quest. it's only result is one or two unique settlers joining your network.

you might consider setting him essential during the last save when you see him alive. you would open the console and run the following command:
Code:
setessential xx00EAB7 1
where xx is the number in hex where SS2.ESM is in your load order (mine is 0C, you should be able to see this in loot or xEdit)
when you make it through the deathtrap downtown, don't forget to remove his essential flag, or you will have trouble at the end of the quest
Code:
setessential xx00EAB7 0

I'll definitely set him to essential if I go back. As for skipping the quest, I only know of the option of skipping the main questlines of SS2. If you mean that I can ignore the quest, well that's true, especially if I leave Anton to rot, but it doesn't feel right somehow

To unlock the ability to pay THE RON to find the other Unique Settlers for you, you do have to complete the two recruitment missions he gives you initially. But technically that's "optional" too, they can eventually spawn without going through THE RON's service.

There it is, that's why it feels wrong to skip that quest. All right, I'll get on it!

All right, went back on an earlier save once again and I went straight to the hotel to finish that quest. That felt good!

So long sucker. But yeah, the essential flag would help. Thank you everyone!
