This could be a big deal for the modding community.
You can just click selections such as Soldier-Female-British and type in your text to get spoken dialogue for games. It would at least be good enough for new robot voices and might even pass for human.

Adobe had a demo of a tech like this a few years ago, and then I haven't heard anything about it since - great to see more work is happening in that field!

This is going to be amazing for game dev, terrifying for real life... Won't be long before we can synthesize fake conversations between people and sick the public outrage machine on them.

I am reminded of the screen adaptation of The Running Man by Richard Bachman/Stephen King. Particularly the faked film they used when they “lost” him for a while.

The book was much better.

That will probably only work the first few times. After that, audio recordings will just lose their value as proof, once the existence of such "audio-photoshop" becomes public knowledge. Similar to how implausible images on the internet are doubted and called "shopped".

Which will eventually put is into a state of not being able to prove anything with evidence... and that's really scary.

Reality-illusion is becoming infinitely malleable at will.

Start adding augmented reality and realistic holograms to the mix. “Yes, we saw so-and-so celebrity at X restaurant, Y swimming pool, and committing Z murder. At the same time. While his wife says he was at home that night. None of this can be proved...”
—edit—
Imagine people wanting to look like something other than they really are. Then someone hacks your personal holosheath. Or duplicates you to do something disreputable. Or whatever other deviation some twisted mind can think ip.

Rule 36. If it exists, there is porn of it.

Apologies for taking this discussion down a very dark turn. I’ll shaddup about it now.
