Following the quick start vid and assigning a leader, nothing is happening. Besides building the desk, assigning a leader what else is there to even get things going?

I trashed hours worth of custom settlement building in 2.1.8 due to lagginess and bugs thinking this should improve things.....?

When you say nothing is happening did you get the cinematic to scrap stuff in the settlement THEN nothing happenned or just nothing at all?

Maybe try selecting a city plan from the planning desk by hovering over the blueprint to pick manage.

Also just double check that the companion you selected appears next to led by when you select the manage option.

Finally... have you got version 3.03a for sim settlements and 3.03 for rise of the commonwealth installe?

there was no cinematic.....didn't know there was one? there were no city plans available. I figured i needed the foundation before selecting a city plan. basically, all the settlers are doing what they normally do and ignore me.

i have 303a, but thought that replaced 303....

-------------------------------
i changed the realistic build time to off, though that should not have had an impact on building even starting in the first place.

build plans, while i messed with it, makes no sense to me and should have no impact on them starting the foundation.

I've also scrapped the desk and rebuilt it, unassigned and reassigned codsworth.....still, nothing is changing.
----------------------------

ok, now i understand the "cinematic to scrap stuff" which is the confirmation screen. The answer is no, I do not get any confirmation to do anything.

still nothing, no confirmation screen after selecting a leader, nothing is happening.

Seriously losing interest in dealing with any of this. I'm spending more time troubleshooting why the absolute start of a one settlement is not doing what the video is saying it should be doing.

Hold a second, something in what you said rang a bell. Can you paste your load order?

The expansion for RotC is not loaded. You will not have blueprints until you add it.

Link is in my signature.

Downloading now. I had zero clue they were separate files, I just figured that "SS" was "Rise...." all in one.

Nope, Kinggath had to split them up to keep from overwhelming folks with low drive space. You need the core but the expansions are both optional and each adds different elements to the game.

Thanks, but sadly, it hasn't changed anything. Still no foundation being built. I took back control then gave it up again. NO confirmation screen or anything.

tells me there are no city plans for that area. regardless, kinggath never mentioned having to select a city plan in his quick start vid, just a leader.

What version of Sim Settlements and IR are you on (I think you said 3.0.3a for SS core but confirming means we can expect certain behaviors from it)? Reason for asking is an old Industrial Revolution absolutely will screw things up.

Might I add..
If you still are missing the City Plans after you have all the latest versions... do a manual overwrite of the files. Mod managers.. well.. suck at best. LOL

SS was 303a, however,industrial was still 216.
Herein lies a problem with NMM, as it doesn't update mod version changes and not just for SS, but for other mods as well. Though I don't know if that's the a function of NMM, the Nexus or the mods themselves.

---------------------------------------
Industrial updated, still no change.

I"m about ready to uninstall everything and be done with it.

NMM itself is the culprit. My signature tagline pretty much sums it up.

If you always delete and redownload the mods when you update, NMM does a fair job at keeping thing working. If you use NMM to update, there will be tears in your future.

well, manual reinstall did nothing.
so I unchecked all the SS mods, loaded, saved, rechecked SS mods, loaded and now all SS inventories are gone. So unless someone has the console commands so I can give myself everything i need where I stand (i refuse to run around looking for them again and refuse to rebuild yet another character), I'm pretty much finished and this whole process failed.

I clipped through the mayoral shelter knowing there was something there and grabbed a new tape and whatnot...got it working...

@Nunya You mentioned you can't control your settlers. That makes me believe your save file is locked up. If you'd like me to do some surgery on it, post it on dropbox.com and paste a link here.

Though it sounds like you've run out of patience for modding (the constant troubleshooting is part of the experience when trying to add mods to an existing save with other mods unfortunately), so understand if you'd rather move on.

I did get it working by retrieving the other holotape. Someone should pass to kinggath, that when he posts new vids to go with updated/fixed files, he should list what, if any, other files are also affected by the update. Like i mentioned, I had no clue the main file was split in 2, and since NMM doesn't inform of version changes, didn't realize that Industrial was also updated. I never update any files until I watch his vid first anyway.

My last questions on this, now that the foundation has been built:
1) can any or all of the foundation be removed or modified or is there a pathing requirement to have it in place?
2)where did all the crafting benches go?

The city plans are designed to allow you to have as much "hands off" an approach as you wish. So if you want to still control everything, you can, or you can let the settlers with their leader do all of it for you. You still have to do some stuff, but your involvement is intentionally minimized. I would stress, though, that moving the foundation and city skeleton objects around is not a good idea, as the city will upgrade to level 1, 2, and 3, building upon what is already there as part of the city plan (I know the level 0 skeleton is not that impressive, but wait until you see just level 1 Sanctuary.. it is a damn joy and looks like a real post-war settlement now). So, in general, not a good idea to go shuffling things around unless you'd like your upgraded city to resemble a Picasso.

The crafting benches got scrapped. They were in the way. You'll have to build new ones. If you don't have the perks necessary yet, an alternative is to move them to somewhere safe, like down by the river, until the city planning is done, then move them where you want.

so building anything on top of any current foundation should probably be removed? I've only built 1 house on one platform area, which is the only thing even remotely modified.

Yeah, the settlers will build on top if it otherwise.

In Sanctuary, the area by the river, and most of the space from the bridge to the first collapsed house on your right (if you were to walk from the bridge on the road into sanctuary) is all pretty unused if you're looking for good spots to build manually.
