250 mod limit

Is there a "mod" that will increase the number of mods? I hit the 250 mod limit and when I go beyond it, it starts crashing like every 30 seconds... I restarted my game thinking it was a bad save somewhere before. But looking in Vertex, it showed that I had 258 mods... So I had to delete out what I installed in the past week (7 mods) and now it works.

First you can convert small / large but simple mods into whats called an .esl file. You can have a couple thousand of them if you need it :D

If you use MO2 there is a mod that will set things to esl if possible. Its Here - also Gamerpoets has generally fantastic videos about how to keep your load order working.

Next look at getting Wrybash and setting it up - with it you can make a bash patch. Where you take some mods and shove them together. Upsides - it just works. Downside - if another mod is looking for the one you stuck in the bash it cant find it. For example if you add some sunglases to the game then hide it in the bash. Then I write a mod to your glasses that gave it night vision. My Mod wouldnt be able to run unless your glasses are out of that batch. Otherwise F4 thinks it doesnt exist.

Learn about LOOT and Load Order. Also MO2 if you dont use it :)

Remember Beth doesnt support removing mods from their games. It can leave behind a bunch of code problems, broken skins, and warped monsters. Id suggest putting it into your load order and making a new character to test if they work. the 'Cheat Terminal' and 'Fast Start - Skip Sanctuary Prologue' will let you zip out of 111 and be able to summon and manipulate stuff to see if their working ok.

Im sure If forgotten some thing - I'll be glad to help if you have questions. Just remember to play the game too. :D

P.S. Gopher (Found here) is another excellent mod video creator for helping keep your games healthy.

On Vortex you should be able to see a column on the plugins page that shows what mods can be marked as light, which does the same thing. It's on the far right after dependencies. I currently have 347.

I combed thru my settlement downloads and compared them to the master contest block that KingGath released a couple months ago... Lots of duplicates that I could disable. Now with the other ones that I disabled the other day, I am back to 216.

Did you try marking any as Light in Vortex?

It was in the plug in area... I lightened up several even though there are several but they are updated on a frequent basis.. So I didn't touch those.

It is a very old video but still applicable if using vortex. As @LeapinL posted.

Back then, I did not know how safe flagging them was. It is safe.

If using MO2 then what @Skywise001 posted is the way to go: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/48460

Given you are at 250, at some point, you may want to think about switching to MO2 anyway.

Also, you can flag your own using FO4Edit?

The auto esl file in Mod Organizer 2 will try to identify the files that can change. You can do them one at a time in FO4Edit - unless someone knows a way to get multiple :D

I did the ones that Vortex labeled as could be light, but I have a stack of older (won't ever be updated ever again - BYOP and Plumbing ones) that I could do those. This could save me another batch of ESP mods into ESL and save on my load order.

Thank you.

Also dont forget you can make a bashed patch to shoe some mods together :)

And even in quite a few cases where form id's won't change use Mator's smash to combine several esp's into one.

@Skywise001 ... here ya' go. I've used it before and it worked just fine. It will combine and change any form id's(iirc), if necessary, into a single plugin(not sure on the resource files though; you'll need to check on that). It's also in the Skyrim section of the Nexus.

Ive done some experimenting shoving things together by copy and paste. I got all the Warhammer 40k Mods into a single folder that by blind luck seems to work.

I think that's basically what he does, then dynamically re-assigns form id when necessary, but it's been awhile since I've used it. When I did, it actually worked really well. From a 'production' stand-point, you could create a bunch of patches between different mods then 'smash' them all together into a single plugin.

Right on. I need a bit of help. Im trying to thin down my mods and its hard

I finally gave up, changed my fallout4 into a backup and redownloaded from Steam and started doing a reinstall from Vortex. I just hope this evening that things will smooth our with another restart.. number 30.

Well, number 30 and 31 failed when I was doing the first initial Sanctuary build at the beginning of the game. So total tear down, screen shot of all of my mods on Vortex, reload from Steam, removed all mods from Vortex, re-added from Nexusmods and got into Cheat Terminal to update my stats then had to quit for the day.
