Fallout 76

So, I am a programmer (as a career) but I've always been a bit too lazy to help out with Sim Settlements. However I can't go back to pre-SS Fallout. I'd be more than happy to be part of what ever needs to happen to get Sim Settlements 76 going, when (and if) the time comes.

We can only HOPE! I'm really tired of the Boston accent. Plus... talk about the challenge of building settlements in WV! :)

I've been a Sim Settlements lurker for a long time now, but with the FO76 announcement I can't stand it.
I'm still optimistic but, how might Sim Settlements work with the rumored survival/online elements? I've played a few survival games that allowed for modding, but it involved private servers and a lot of coordination.

so, the question is if it is on-line or single player.?

i’ll get excited once the speculation is over on that one.

seems BGS held the cards well and beat the speculation. I want to hear the real BGS response. likely E3 before I get too hyped.

I'm going mostly by what Jason S. at Kotaku has been saying this morning. He was right yesterday afternoon about the announcement not being a new port, that he didn't want to ruin it, but that it was going to be a new FO game and going in a new direction. I want to hear an official response from BGS as well, but I also want to keep my expectations realistic. I got so excited yesterday morning at the initial announcement of the announcement I was lightheaded.

I was just wondering if the SS community had any thoughts as to how SS and a "new direction" might mesh. But I guess it's hard to even speculate without much else to go on. I'll just hang out til E3.

So hype! Can't wait to see the E3 presentation to find out if Sim Settlements gets to be in West Virginia. :)
Of if they lifted your mod and hardcoded into the game to where its hard to get it to work with your mod.

If it turns out to be an online focused game, that would definitely put a huge kink in the modding plan. Though other games have successfully allowed for online modded content, so I don't think it's out of the question.

We're kind of at a wait and see. I for one would prefer a single player game, but I appreciate this guy leaking so I can calm my expectations. If it turns out to be a multiplayer focused game with limited modding - then you all can expect a lot more from Sim Settlements in FO4! As who knows how long it will be until FO5 now.

Could work out like ark and conan exiles where modding exists. Conan has enemy/friendly NPCs. So it could work if its online like those games. They can't just toss modding out like that since its one of the draws to fallout and elder scrolls.

Or drop in companion mode. As in arena fights or something. Total war did something like for awile, where you could fight a human opponent in specific battles. Don’t know if it is still there, tried it. Did not care for it. Still enjoy TW as a single player.

I am going to have to keep chilled.

I too would want a modded single player experience. With Bethesda, who knows? Jason maybe? I don’t so “it is what it is”.

Conan is what came to mine first - we were involved in that way way back early access. Maybe some kind of Division (vault 76 as a neutral base and quest hub) meets Conan survival aspect.

I just love the SS community even if I've been a silent member until now and hope that it continues to thrive with FO4 and FO76 whatever it ends up being.

Mh, so what exactly is that supposed to be?

I'm kinda conflicted about this. This comes relatively soon after F4, even while they are still trying to milk F4 using the CC, comes out of nowhere, rumors about multiplayer...? I suspect it won't be an RPG, but something different. Maybe a shooter, or some variant of the Fallout Shelter minigame. Or maybe a MOBA, these seem to be what all the hip youngsters play nowadays, would make sense to try to jump onto this train.

I do actually hope that this means that support for F4 will be halted, aka, no more F4SE-breaking updates. I mean, it's not like they are fixing any bugs anyway in these updates.

Oh come now, there's still CC to milk! That would mean more updates :)

Not sure what to expect from this. Kind of stoked about it, but expectations are tempered right now. If it's a base-building type game with some RPG elements perhaps I'd be happy. Online perhaps would involve raids on other people's settlements. Or perhaps everyone is completely off the mark and the rumours are in fact incorrect and it's an in-between game like NV. Who knows? I'm still excited to find out more information though.

It may be a game that has online and offline modes. I know Todd is a fan of Minecraft, which informed choices and direction on F4. So, if it's like that I'm down. If it is a Fortnite or PUBG fast follow, I'm likely not in. My gut tells me that the little toy jeep by the TV means we will finally get to drive.

I'm mostly bummed that Starfield isn't ready yet.

Huh, who said that?? :pleasantry Hype train on Vault 76 nope, Starfield I'm still waiting.

These guys have run a Brilliant Deception Campain so far and I got an intuitive feeling that I am still waiting for the Hammer to Fall.

After all, quote: "something for everyone".

So given my optimistic nature, my shot at this is :giver: Just this simple:

Starfield, thus ------

"Sim-Planet"

And Uituit will be trying to make a Death-Star.

So, this is what happens when I speculate... good E3 is right around the corner if only too let everyone forget I even said this.
:dogmeat:
just having fun folks! but, If I am right???

With all the rumors of it being an MMO, a PvP, online/multiplayer/coop/etc... best not to get all excited till E3.

If 76 is Fallout 4, with a better engine, better reliability, better storyline/implementation of all the areas in the game - meaning lets do it right and get back credibility.

In my career field, the term "something for everyone" means likely nobody will be happy.

I would rather see a solid product versus trying to be like every one else... and to King's comment, if it is all the rumors, settlement building will not be effective in a multiplayer, run and gun, PvP, type game.... or the thought of vehicles transversing the wasteland ... for me as one playing survival exclusively, it's not my style.

If it is west Virginia, and I was shocked to hear comments like "vault 76 is in DC, not there" (geography please???), and King can do settlements, I will move from a complacent thought to overexcitement ...

Hillbilly factories, houses/shacks, hunting shacks, moonshine, mining camps, etc...

Otherwise, I will stay in Fallout 4.

My true fear is fallout genre will die. The move towards micro-transactions, creation club, etc.... is an indicator for me... and I use examples of Call of Duty... multiplayer yes... WAS a good single player long ago.... but probably best multiplayer. Do I want Fallout to look like this? Not me personally.

Take the example of Assassin's Creed. imho, they killed this series after revelations... Yes, making new content, but buy, buy... they tried multiplayer - complete dud. do I want to see the Fallout genre to die and go the way of Call of Duty? Me personally no.

I am more eagerly waiting for E3 to see what direction. I am hoping for the reclamation of the genre, not a death spiral.

My 2cents... sorry to ramble.

John

My guess is that it is a survival-type game with limited/optional co-opt.

Think Rust/DayZ/Starve Together mixed with Sim Settlements style building mixed with Left 4 Dead style co-operation.

Designate, say, 8 people to a server. Anyone can log into that static "world" at any time and be friend or foe. Or, possibly allow players to "own" a world, and only allow in a certain list of people that they know.
We'll find out in about 10 days!
