Where would you build?

I had a settler die of radiation working a Rare materials plot at the Lighthouse that had waste barrels by it. No ones died working there after i deleted the waste barrels.
Sure, I've seen them get knocked out from the barrels in the pond in the middle of Starlight Drive In too if you deliberately don't scrap them. Just not sure how the Glowing Sea's radiation is applied mechanically, given you can get the Rad Storms ANYWHERE and I don't remember ever seeing all my settlers start dying at around the same time due to that slow buildup.

I love Spectacle Island. Aside from the fact that you need to make multiple power grid redundancies to fix the "the game forgets the power generator is attached" problem when you get far enough from the generators, you can do so much. So much. I once built an "Age of Empires II Low Elo Legends" version of the island where everything but the docks were completely walled off and turned the interior of the island into a giant, self-sustaining fortress where everyone had a high-to-max level firearm and with custom made sentry bots patrolling the shoreline for mirelurks. I even turned the Lurk-B-Gon antenna off to see if the settlement could survive the assault and they practically danced their way through the crab apocalypse.

God, now I want to do that again, but with my new computer rather than a PS4. See what a 2060 will let me do.
Low Elo Legends, hah that's hilarious.

I'm currently building at Covenant, it's probably the first real Sim Settlements town I'll actually finish. Since I prefer not to use fast travel at all (playing semi-hardcore), choosing a central location is ideal. Though, it's probably even more convenient to settle everything so you always have a nearby friendly place to restock.

the settlement system is a must in hard-corish games because yeah having places to sleep/restock close helps.

Yeah, bit of testing at that "Bright Bluff" settlement spot in the Glowing Sea later; settlers DO take Rad Damage from the ambient radiation there, but it doesn't appear to KILL them - just eventually knocks them on their ass for a minute then they get back up (presumably zeroing out their Rad count) and it repeats all over again. That's without anything to change their Essential/Protected status, though...
Think I'll stick with the traditional "slowly build outwards in a spiral from around Concord" after all.

Does Pra's Radiation Cleaner work there?

I'll give that a shot; if I'm reading this right, that thing provides the "immune to Rad Damage" passive effect to everyone within a certain radius, so it should do the trick, but I'll test it out. There's a "plot version" in the 'Random Addon' too, so we'll see how that goes once this save unlocks Municipal.

See I have better settles Mortal pack so mine will die. I did have them at level 40 last game but I ditched a mod and now they are only level 15 and can die. I really should look at beefing them up again cause with Modern Weapons and Armors installed even raiders carry powerful guns and have fat armor. I usually gain 10 levels just from crafting gear for my settlers. Lets put it like this. My character has 1400+ Ballistic DR and raiders can still do damage to me. Actually I'll have to look but after last level and armor upgrades I might be above 2000 Balistic DR

Radiation damage is the last thing I worry about when it comes to settlers. These AK556's are the weapons I picked up from the last settlement attack. It was Gunners. When Gunners and raiders are laying out this kind of damage and you have mortal settlers. Yeah. Then below is an idea of how much a minigun in my game does in damage. Let's just say I am always checking to make sure settlements aren't under attack and if they are I go right there if possible. And I checked and I have a 2600+ ballistic DR and yeah bullets still get through.

When you start hitting hexadecimal milestones with automatic weapons it might be a sign that things have escalated a bit far.

I don't worry about upping the in game difficulty when I got things like this flying around. Makes for some interesting battles to say the least. But that's my style I play a more militaristic Minuteman game. We have to be able to compete and soon be able to deal with this mechanized force the Brotherhood so we need to be on par or better.

dude, that is some gun damage, you sneeze with that and you could kill a whole settlement.

I wish I could find a way to get these miniguns and some of the anti-tank guns into the hands of my We are the Minutemen/Militarized Minutemen Heavy units that spawn in but I haven't found a leveled list replacer for that and I'm not that knowledgeable of modding yet to do it myself. At that point it'd be Brotherhood of who? I absolutely love the Modern Weapons/Armors mods.
