Where would you build?

I use the new Roadside Pines motel updated for SS2. I haven't gotten to that side of the map yet though. but it is just available from the start with no Thicket quest.
Yeah, I'm glad I was running with TGM on for this 'test case' scenario; the named raider that is at Thicket as part of the vanilla miniquest there spawned with one of skibidaa's "personal miniguns" from that "weapon pack REDUX" and holy schnitt so many bullet.

I love Spectacle Island. Aside from the fact that you need to make multiple power grid redundancies to fix the "the game forgets the power generator is attached" problem when you get far enough from the generators, you can do so much. So much. I once built an "Age of Empires II Low Elo Legends" version of the island where everything but the docks were completely walled off and turned the interior of the island into a giant, self-sustaining fortress where everyone had a high-to-max level firearm and with custom made sentry bots patrolling the shoreline for mirelurks. I even turned the Lurk-B-Gon antenna off to see if the settlement could survive the assault and they practically danced their way through the crab apocalypse.

God, now I want to do that again, but with my new computer rather than a PS4. See what a 2060 will let me do.

:scratchhead I think the SS2 stands for "Settlement Story" vs. SimSet2? :umnik2
Thicket - would be SS1
Atom Cats - SS3

Personally I'd like to rebuild Quincy and Salem. Just not trying to use alt settlement mods with SS2 heard they can break it. but now that I am done with chapter 1. Who knows. I love to use expanded settlements mods but I also like to use city plans to get a template of what the city should look like. at least on this playthrough to get a feel for the new system.

Same here! I have the creation club Minutemen vs Gunners mod which lets you retake Quincy, but not as a settlement :(

I can't wait to see how the building comp will go this season and I hope to see more people kicking my ass with their builds. :D

An additional thought; I almost want to try out some mod-settlements in the Glowing Sea itself, but most of the ones I've checked appear to be too far from any others to be able to Caravan Plot link to the rest of the Commonwealth. :(
If anyone's got any recommendations for Settlement locations down there I'd love to hear them.

I'd love to set up an outpost in an excavated portion of the sunken factory. Maybe connect it to a commandeered Gunner station that they have dotted around the SW part of the map, so that the Caravans can reach.

I wonder if they will connect to Daylight's End

EDIT: Although, it is not much further to the south than Somerville Place

See I use modern firearms and all the leveled list changers so my gunners and raiders can spawn with multiple grenade launchers like level 1 and vulcan mini guns at higher levels. Also throw in Modern Armors and they get tougher to kill too. I would really like to find some settlement plans for the Militarized minutemen mod. That gear towards a brewing war with the institute/gunners. I love to build my own cities but I love city plans as a template.

Looking at the pipboy map in the Images tab, that's well and truly close enough to Somerville Place and Egret Marina. I meant something out IN the Glowing Sea, like this "Bright Bluff" one I found looks perfect, but that's got to be a long way Out Of Range of any other settlements.

i like putting artillery on the overpass at finch and let a volley go every once in a while on the satellite array and the junkyard.

Probably not with ideks plots they don't care about distance

Yeah but last I checked, they don't link the Virtual Storage together at a range any further than the standard Caravan Plots do, and that's my actual point.

Yeah something i have been talking to him about. he is thinking about just ditching the empire distance or at least making it way larger.

I never really understood the cloud storage distance. If things are linked then the entire network should be able to share building resources.

It does kind of bug me too a little. The distance it uses, if you extrapolate from the size-scale of the Commonwealth map, works out to like... 1, maybe 2 miles at the most? But towns in the days before motorized vehicles seemed to average out at around 15-20 miles apart, presumably because that was about how far you'd get in a day with a horse-and-cart? Even on foot the average healthy person could probably do that within daylight hours.

Just checked - yeah, it doesn't connect to Somerville Place. But if there is a settlement somewhere under Lake Cochituate, maybe it would connect them.
