Truckload of Gunners normal??

now to my new issue:
got three time oberland station in a row (did popup every 24h ingame hours as intended though). when arriving they do all occure at the same time so i got the 3x 12-14 npc's attacking at once.
That's very odd. I know SS2 prefers settlements with ASAMS now for its attacks (and you have only 3) but still, never seen 3 at once on the same setltement.
 
Can someone without those issues try and overbuild a settlement (600-800%+), then get an attack there - for science? A city contest plan at level 3, 20+ settlers and all that. I swear it's related and it's not a mod conflict. FPS massively drops and because of that scripts can't run properly. So whatever script is meant to spawn gunners just injects a shit ton of them.
Thinking about it, that would actually be pretty consistent with what I've seen of it in other people's Lets Plays on Youtube too. Probably why it hasn't happened for me, I'm not usually pushing my own system into "this script lag's getting pretty bad" levels until the "build twice as much stuff just to be able to finish HQ" phase of a playthrough, which is after those attacks would be long since done. Worth a shot to test, but if that's the case, there's probably not much that can be done to mitigate it - my first thought was to change it to some sort of chance-based thing instead of a 100% chance per day (which would drastically lower the odds of getting multiple attacks triggering at the same time), but that would alter the "feel" of the sequence quite a bit; although if the chance was some sort of formula based on the target settlement's stats, it might feel like your building efforts have actually mattered too...
 
Welp I've continued on ... but I can't keep up! I now have like 6 or 7 under attack .. I can hardly zone in to repair my stuff anywhere anymore. I once had 3 alerts pop up within a minute of each other. I had cleared Red Rocket only to have it pop right back up 5 minutes later. Went to clear out Taffington Boathouse and got stuck inside upstairs literally due to bodies piling up lol Super funny, but frustrating.
My fav weapon, Gauss Rifle <3 ran out ammo, my back ups ran out, can't throw grenades because then settlers and even followers go hostile because of how packed it is. Now it seems that when I get there, I get the failed message just a minute into fighting.
I loooove everything about this mod, except this. I love seeing my settlements grow, getting to unlock new plots, furthering the story line. All of it but the tsunami of gunner attacks lol
I don't run any other mods like this one - I have lotsa deco and building mods, some looks menu stuff, and that London preview one (cannot waaait for that, been following it so long!)

You can safely ignore the attacks until dealing with their source. They'll never trigger unless you're at the area (attack on Slog can start when you're around Saugus, I had my dudes and OP turrets deal with that). Also if you're friends with CPD (but not too friendly yet), there's a bonus in it. But the fact you're getting 6-7 of them and they show up so frequently sounds off..
Attacks failing for no reason is annoying. What's funny is they don't fail when settlers die but hitting a generator or something will probably fail it.
 
and i got my truckload of gunners back.

the amount of attackers did grow when my defences went up at those settlements who had a city plan but the quests didn't destinguish between the settlements. oberland was still vanilla with 9 settlers and about 6 heavy turrets. and i got about 25-30 attackers per quest (had two stacked up, so 50-60 attackers). last attack on the castle and croup where about 40-50.

i recentyly built up airport and slog with base city plan. airport has about 10 settlers, got already picked and had about 50 attackers as well. they took out the whole ground force of the brotherhood which joined in. slog is still to be picked by the next attack cycle.

since last patch oberland isn't picked yet.
 
patch 2.3.0 came out and yup, this has been adressed.
i can confirm that the truckload of gunners are no more.

for those still doublechecking: the existing defend quests which came up prior patch installation will still have the truckload. the quests after patch installation will have the max. 20 npcs cap.
 
I have a lot of trouble with the massive gunner attacks, I can't defeat them, some times it feels like a hundred of them. The only time I defeated them was when I threw a artillery grenade inside the settlement and killed everybody, settlers included. I went from level 96 to level 99 in a few seconds.

Is it safe to upgrade from 2.2.5a to the latest version or will I break something else?

Also, is it working as intended when all the gunners in the attack are set to protected? Because they are in my game. My settlers only bring them down so the fight becomes endless if I am not killing them.

I wouldn't 100% say it's safe to update. Probably? Update and wait for script lag to end? Some stuff got significant reworks with significant bugs that are (mostly?) patched out with the last update. Overall the most recent version should be better in every way.

It's usually fine to upgrade versions. The usual worst side effect is that you might have to go back a save or two if you were literally in the middle of something that got fixed when you last quit out of the game.

I updated, it seems to work fine, the new attacks only have a small amount of gunners. I still have to deal with the 70+ gunners at hangmans alley. I can't go near right now.

Another thing I forgot to mention before, it doesn't really fit with the topic of the thread but whenever a settlement get attacked it also gets undiscovered, so I get the "you discovered.." message and experience points anew whenever I get there.
 
Use Flaregun you get from Minute men.
I think most people forget that its a thing, but it really comes in handy in these situations

They would last about 4 seconds against 70 high level gunners.

Yeah unless you're running some other mods to alter The Minutemen (the generic nameless troops especially) the Flare Gun is basically already useless by the time you first get it - they'll spawn as probably level 1 no matter what and only be wearing a shirt and jeans. A few seconds worth of distraction at best, and that's assuming they even get there in time. (since it only works if you hold another settlement within a certain range and they then sprint to your character's location)

Yup - but I have Militarized MInutemen Mods - so they scale properly
 
I defeated the gunners at the plaza and now I am building the HQ. I was thinking the gunner attacks are finally solved, but they are not.
The attacks with a gazillion gunners are still unsolved, I would like to visit Finch farm and Covenant (I beat the gunners at Hangman's Alley after about 15 reloads), but right now it's impossible.
Is this normal behavior, that the attacks are not solving themselves after taking the plaza?
 
The last gunner attack on Starlight, about 30 or so, killed half my settlers. Not funny.
Reloaded, went in with tgm command, still could not save 5.
I really hate this part of SS.

If it's being absolutely ridiculous, try using TCL instead of tgm. Shotgun blasts kinda ignore collision at close range, so you can just fly up to them and blow them up :p
