So I hit the quest and when we went to talk to Stodge he demanded that I give him my weapons. NO Way in hell am I giving my weapons to this jerk. The the only option I have is to kill him, come on! I would have just walked away and let him and his bunch of friends rot but that isn't even an option? Did I miss an option? I don't have the charisma to pass any checks. I was very dissapointed in the entire situation and the options presented. Anyone else find that anoying?

reload and play it again and do your actions differently for that part

Sorry, I just will not hand over my wepons to the jerk, put my wepon away is one thing his demand to hand them over is something else entirely. It would have been nice if I could have talked to several of his companions and had them convince him to mellow out instead of shooting me because I walk away from him. It actually makes me not want any of them in my settlement but I know I have to have them to complete part one, just don't like this quest at all.

you do realize that you are trying to rebuild the Boston area and have to be more passive with people
youll get your guns back there a box behind him
to help bring them into the fold of the settlement's

Yes but passive doesn't mean surrender to everyone. Sorry, I just feel it's bad writing to not give alternatives like, as I pointed out, talking to his other companions. Also in the grand scheme of things, not taking in 5 or 6 settlers who don't appear to want my help will not cause the rebuild effort to collapse. Just my opinion.

I'm very sorry you had a bad experience with this quest. Unfortunately it's part of the tutorial to teach certain mechanics which is why no matter what, you must accept at least half of these settlers into one of your settlements. We're a relatively small team, and we can't always include as many options as we like.

In the Who Can? ASAM! quest, you have the following options to deal with Stodge during his initial greeting.

1. Attack Stodge right away
2. If you walk too far away, Stodge will attack (he assumes you are a Gunner)
3. Hand over your weapons
4. Pass a Speech Check and hold onto your weapons
5. Use the Perk Intimidate to make Stodge back down
6. Tell Stodge to leave

Again, I’m very sorry this quest left a bad taste in your mouth, and I hope that at least up until this point you were enjoying the mod!

I mean no ill will, I think that the mod is fantastic and up to that point I was enjoying it quite a bit. I sat there looking at all my conversation options and tried to use charisma checks and the like but I just couldn't get myself to hand this jerk my weapons it just wouldn't sit right with my character. If I was doing a diplomat playthrough or just had high charisma it might be different. If there could be an option to talk to his companions to maybe lower the charisma check number it wouldn't have been as bad. It felt I was being punished for not having charisma. I'll live with it just to see how part 2 is.

I do appreciate all of your team's hard work and you have made a fantastic piece of content. I hated the vanilla settlement system with a passion and this mod has made building into something enjoyable. I'll probably just skip the quest next playthrough though.

I just hand over my weapons, then talk, and when the quest is done you get them back simple, and you just recruited a number of people to your settlements, quest complete.

BTW how do I get option 6 to "Tell Stodge to leave" couldn't see that anywhere.
First, you'll need to pass the first hurdle of handing over your weapon or not. (Stodge only disarms you of whatever you have or had last equipped I believe).

After that, if you don't like Stodge, you can kill or tell him you’ve had enough of him.

If you’re curious as to why you can’t just easily talk Stodge down, you can ask him about why he’s so paranoid and he’ll explain the group's situation. Or, you can kill him! And Theresa will explain.

TL;DR of their situation. They’ve just fled from a settlement annexed by Gunners. They’re trying to lay low and find somewhere new to live. Stodge is worried the Player is a Gunner who’s come to capture, or kill them. Hence his not very friendly and paranoid attitude. The Commonwealth is a rough place for most people, and Stodge has no idea who you are, or what you want.

I am doing that quest now, Ill hand my weapons over as always, and ill recruit more settlers for my settlement, hopefully my charisma is high enough so I don't have any problems.

All went very smooth did it yesterday, no problems as it always does for me.

I went with the "Nobody points a gun at me" option and blew him away. Unless I'm missing something, you can still recruit the rest of the settlers (after calming them down a bit).

From the story point of view, I thought that was reasonable, actually. He was a trigger-happy asshole getting aggressive in the middle of a firefight. I wasn't even clear he was part of the settler group cuz we hadn't been exactly introduced. Seemed like a likely outcome.

The whole point of RPGs is that your choices affect the outcome, and sometimes your choices close off outcomes.

I was very annoyed with this quest as well, I went with all of the positive dialogue and once the quest was complete, I sent Stodge to the Boston Airport to be all by himself. I would have just assumed blow him away but I wanted the robot and Lashes.
