The Official “Ask the lead writer of SS2 anything” Thread!

Personally, I'd love to know the ages (age ranges?) of the rest of the Nightengale crew. we get general things like Ellis being the youngest, but like how young? I imagine not too terribly young/inexperienced if Cassandra is fine with leaving him to operate without her.... in the same train of thought, How are we imagining medical training going in the fo4 world?
Lots and lots of ghoul raider and animal cadavers

Just imagine the stuff that could happen if we took over the Institute and had a partnership going on with them and the HQ.
I was thinking exactly this and also recreate the commonwealth provisional government part 2 that includes maybe leaders of all factions or settlements, or they would be cautious at first so they send a minor representative at first and we have to convince each of the factions.
And commonwealth police department to guard them

I'd like to see a storyline for after the MSQ, like a faction presence at HQ dependant on who you're still friendly with. A couple Brotherhood Knights joining Aiden's patrol, Minutemen joining the Logistics, A Railroad Agent in personel and an Institute Scientist in Engineering. Each one coming with a 15 or 20 in their respective stat and no need for living quarters. So in most scenarios, you'd get one of the above, but it would be possible to get more than that, depending on how you played your cards.

Will the Nightengales have more of a role? I really like the faction - I make sure I can pony up the money for them when on the escort quest. Interacting with them softens some of the hardness the 'Wealth pushes her toward.

Related note - what is the 'cannon' ending of that trade agreement? I like Lydia and Id like to explore more of her trade club :)

Will Jake get an affinity perk and lover's embrace comments like the other followers :grin
"Well that was... disappointing... guess it's all water under the bridge now"
"Damn, last time I had this much exercise was when I carried the comm hub on my back for miles"
"I miss my wife"
"Oh boy, you sure know how to turn this satellite array on"
"Let's just... not talk about this and get back to getting HQ in shape, shall we"
"Holy moley, they don't do THAT in Sanford!"

Not so far-fetched to believe. On a throwaway save I messed around with the console and AFT, and made Jake a companion. To my surprise Jake already has dialogue for commands. Tell him to get something he'll say "Well only because you asked nicely", or about 4 other lines. ARE WE GETTING READY TO GET COMPANION JAKE!!

Nice find! At the very least, we're getting Conqueror's personal guard squad mechanic, which allows us to recruit any settler. And since HQ technically is a settlement, we'll be able to recruit all the department heads too!

I can tell he's gonna get a plus to affinity whenever you pick up junk or build anything. Especially a hi-tech water plant! And very disappointed if you cheat on him with Gage or something. Though who would do that?
Companion quest could involve killing all sorts of the worst stuff in order to gather the courage to talk to his daughter...

It was said Jake's future would be decided by us, so I see any sort of "companion quest" involving confrontation with his family either something tragic happens to them or the mother and Laura goes to the HQ

If Laura is not convinced and stays with her mom. I'd call that tragic. Pls nothing worse than that, it would break our boi's heart (though this would too). All this kinda reminds me of Witcher 3 main quest and all the snowball games etc and how that turns out.
(also if we romance Jake, having his ex there would be awkward...)

Speak for yourself. I'll happy rub our relationship in her face.

Let me dig up those old Discord messages... sarcastic lines to use in the case of Katelyn possibly being a b*tch.

Katelyn: "You're this and that, built a network of impressive settlements, and got Jake to stop being a lazy ass. I'll admit, you're impressive."
Sole: "I also have perfect pitch, mix a mean martini and look fantastic in a tuxedo."

Katelyn: "Let me guess, you're here to take Laura from me."
Sole: "That wasn't the plan originally, but hey. Tempting."

Katelyn: "And when Jake gets here, whatever conversation he and I will have will not involve you. Got it?"
Sole: "Just waiting for you to pull a gun on me. Spice things up."

Seeing as as Jake is super smart and tinkers with a lot of things, it should be easy to excuse him being away from the HQ. With the pipboy and all just have him make MALA do the basic task while away or just make it so that he's still the head of engineering regardless of being away from the HQ. That actually would be a neat way to give Jake ambient dialogue out in the world, have something randomly go wrong back at HQ, him being notified through the pipboy and fussing about it lol. The pipboy opens a lot of doors for Jake to be more unique than the other followers. It would be awesome if Jake could also pick up random signals out in the world and discuss them with sole

The "Pipboy wirelessly connects to the Comm Array" plot point does open up a lot of story hooks, especially since yeah Jake has one too. (and so does Mansfield)
and since Chapter 2 showed that The Gunners or at least their Mysterious Benefactor can 'hijack' and disable entire settlements worth of ASAMs remotely...

Wonder if the writing team will do anything with that, though... I'm still not sure where the "get told Aiden is sus multiple times" thing is going either.

Do note this is just me guessing. I know some people assume I must be Secretly On The Team and have insider info, but I don't, and I was definitely wrong on at least a couple of plot point guesses about Chapter 2 too. (although you can still prove me right about Old Paul - we never did get to loot his body after all)

Well Aiden is like on opposite ends of everything Jake suggest. So i'm guessing something will eventually happen, a decision where Aiden is just like "NO! screw this i'm not going along with this". I hope not though because I like Aiden

My speculation -- we know he has a penchant for vigilantism. I wouldn't be surprised if Aiden goes rogue at some point to "do what needs to be done" or something. And/or he suggests some...less-than-humane actions (a la shooting Gunners trying to flee HQ rather than letting them escape if they dissent from Wes). Maybe some brutal interrogation techniques? Stuff like that.

Having been working my way through the questline again this week, I've had a thought.
I'm sure writing for Chapter 3 is well and truly "underway" at this point, but just a quick note; I really hope you remembered that if at any point we have more than about 3 feet between us and an NPC we may not like, someone will open fire and break the quest.

It's that time again! ANSWER TIME!

Here's another question I just randomly thought of: How would the HQ heads react to the Sole Survivor building the molecular relay? (I feel like I would know how Jake and Lupe would respond, but not sure how the others would)
Jake: "Now this is one impressed hunk of tech! But, are you sure it's stable?.. I mean, I don't want you losing any fingers or anything."
Aiden: "Teleporting to the Institute, huh? Make room. I'm going too."
Lupe: "Wow! That's a lot of blinking buttons and flashing lights! Can I take a look inside of this thing once you're done with it?.."
Theresa: "Someone really told you using that thing was safe?! You should talk to Hubert, he's got a bridge to sell you..."
Mansfield: "I've made you a packed lunch for the trip. Good luck!!"
Cassandra: - Cassandra wouldn't care about the relay itself but would be fascinated/concerned with the Sole Survivor's health after going through it. (Thanks to Cynical Bounce, writer for the Nightingales quest line.)
Possible Future Staff Member: "You are brave to attempt this. ..And quite foolish."

Nightingales have some additional content in the works, and they're one of the (if not the only) guaranteed allies so they do have a role to play down the line. There's no 'canon' ending to the trade agreement with Lydia as I wanted it to be something the player made up their own mind on when given the choice between immediate reward versus potential drawbacks down the line, and it's been cool to see people's reasonings for making either call.

Yes, and maybe. :)

I think I got all the questions, but do give me a poke if I missed any!
