Question SS Newb Questions

Hi there. I played F4 for 2 years, last time seriously in 2017 and decided I was overdue for a replay. Then I discovered Sim Settlements. Wow am I impressed if it works (I assume so). :) Anyway I've started watching the videos, will be using the City Planner feature and here is my first question.

I'm in Sanctuary, I created the CP desk placed it in the middle of the street, assigned Codsworth as City Planner, did the fly around the city thing, and when I landed the City Planer desk is missing. I remember it was mentioned that this desk would probably move. I've looked through some houses and have yet to find it. So I thought I'd ask. I have a bunch of scrap I connected that I want to donate.
Any pointers? Thanks!
I'm sure more questions will be forth coming. :D

Update: Ok, found it in one of the houses! :)

Ah, well I went through those steps and did not leave Sanctuary and Mama plopped right down in her chair for her first batch of drugs. I think once she has the first set of drugs she won't even try and leave that chair again. I had no issues finding her there every visit after until I sent her to junkie heaven with the last dose. If you follow those steps you should be able to see her think about it after all is done and head for the chair. If she still won't sit, I am sorry, no idea =(

Well, I went to this page:
https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Mama_Murphy and this suggestion worked.
It did not get her back in her chair, but it got her talking. :D
If she won’t sit in her chair> By opening the console, selecting Murphy and typing setpqv ebe71 var_MamaInChair 1.

Question 14- In a couple of settlements I set up some SS building plots (not RotC) and they don't seem to be doing much. I set up a city planning desk and tried to use that to donate junk to the settlement and got a message to the effect it was not accepted. What is needed to get these plots to develop? How about junk in the workbench? Thanks!

Hi guys, things have gone well with Fallout 4 until last night...
I don't think that Sim Settlements has anything to do with it, but I'll post here in case we have some local experts. :)

I've screwed my game up. I've been playing Fallout 4 without issue, and then without doing anything in particular, nothing mod related, one of my settlements lost some what I call "victorian walls" which used to be located at the end of the Workshop>Structures> Wood category. I also had a large clock designed to fit on the top of a building. I'm pretty sure these items came as part of a DLC. Then I noticed that the "brick" category of building (Workshop>Structures>Brick) had disappeared. I think I have all of the DLCs and I don't have mods other than that, that add building pieces.

I had the bright idea to install the Fallout 4 unofficial patch to see if that might correct the issue, but it made it worse. Under Workshop>Structures there are now no building categories other than totems, lots and lots of freaking totems. :(

I've also tried the Missing Tab Fix mod, where you use a mod to make a chem and eat it to fix the Structures tab as in restore that tab. But I have the Structures Tab, what I'm missing is all of the sub categories, wood, metal, concrete, brick. etc.

I've also gone back to older saves before I had installed the Unofficial patch, and loaded them to see if this might fix things. It did not, still seeing only totems in the Workshop Structure Build menu.

I'm willing to uninstall and reinstall the game, then reload the mods, and hopefully when i put in one of my save game files, I'll be able to continue where I left off.

Any thoughts on this or a better way to troubleshoot this issue?

**Part 2**
Would be to uninstall, reinstall the game, add mods back in one at a time with a trimmed down list, and then try to play the game based on one of my save files. But I have to ask, are all of the mod contents stored only in the Mod Folder, or do mods change other parts of the game outside of the mod folder? Because I've removed the mod that caused the issue, and the issue remains, I suspect mods change things outside of the mod folder, accurate?

Also if I do the uninstall, reinstall the game, I'm worried about Settlement that have been built with Sim Settlements. Are those changes solely contained within the mod folder?
If I set the mod folder aside and reinstall the game, can I take the individual mod folder that corresponds to Sim Settlements/RotC back into the main mod folder and have confidence that a saved game file will load properly maintaining those Sim Settlements?

If anyone knows about this, I'd love to hear from you.

It would be helpful to post what apps and the link you have already used?

I am reading on a mobile device so I might have missed a few things.

Sounds like you tried a few things but check all your installed mods for menu fixers. Run them

roll back your save to when it worked? Just to check. Normally this won't fix it.

Make sure you have SMM installed and use that haplotype.

Edit: sorry, I see you already tried the fixer below.
Edit2: all that you ask sounds ok. Try it in your game. Even if pulling a save game over works for one person it may not work for you. The best advice I have is to test everything you asked about on your own system and game. When it happened to me long ago. If I could not fix it with the chem / SMM or the below mod, then I restarted with a clean save.

See 1st edit above. Sorry.
The next one has gotten me out of a pickle or two.

UPDATE: Rolling back the game 2 hours fixed the problem. I have no idea what it was. I was not messing with Mods, I swear! :buba

Question still needs answering:
My missing "brick" building category is still missing in the Workshop> Structures> Wood, Metal, Concrete, etc. . No clue what it is attached to, such as a particular DLC? Anyone know? Thanks!

Thanks for replying!

I had a problem early on (June2019) where after messing with mods my Workshop>Structures Tab disappeared. In that case the Workshop Menu Missing Tab fix worked.

This issue which started a few days ago, did not involve me changing mods around. It just appeared mildly with first some building pieces missing in existing structures (the victorian walls) plus noticing the Workship>Structure>Brick category missing. I believe I have all of the DLCs and I think these are DLC pieces, not sure which one, but I also tried uninstalling all of the DLCs and then reinstalling them. No work.

Then I exaggerated the problem by installing the Unofficial Fallout 4 patch (which is supposed to fix things) and this is when I lost virtually everything under the Structures Tab. The tab itself is still there, but all that is visible is a "totem" a vertical piece of wood, about 10 different versions of it. Uninstalling the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch, did not fix the issue.

So this time I have tried what Workshop Menu Missing Tab fix (install mod, use chem station to make the item, consume it, then uninstall the mod)- no work.

I installed SMM, and used the menu repair feature- no work.

Again, it is not that the Structure tab is missing, but everything normally listed under it are missing.

Before getting drastic, I can go check each mod for load order requirements, a long shot at this point.

Uninstall/Reinstall
If I have to end up going to the uninstall/reinstall strategy, I have paired my mod list down. Without another plan of attack, my steps would be:

  • Ininstall/Reinstall Fallout 4.
  • Reinstall the mods. This will update the game ini files so these mods will work (Not an expert, but read that this is what happens when a mod is installed using Bethesda.net or Nexus Mod Manager.
  • Check the descriptions for load order requirements for each mod.
  • Start the new game, get to a point where I have a saved file. Then insert one of my advanced saved game files.

Here is what I imagine will be the issue. I have 2 complex mods in my current game. Sim Settlements, and Caliente's Beautiful Body Enhancer + Body Slide. Both of these mods have settings and my impression is that for SS, settlement progress is saved within the game save file.

CBBE maybe different, it makes changes and replaces body meshes, and I'm not sure is those are stored in the saved game file or if the settings just sit in the mod folder.

With the hope that I would not have to set up any new settings within these 2 mods, before I uninstall the game, take the (original) Mod Folder from the game directory and set it aside. Uninstall/Reinstall, install these two mods from scratch first so I can identify which mod is associated with which folder label, which are just numbers the last time I looked. So after I installed them, I could then replace those folders with the original folders I set aside. I understand this might reintroduce issues, maybe, maybe not? Then after that, reinstall the other mods from the list.

Any thoughts appreciated :)

I just texted with the girl who made the Repair the Tab Mod mentioned above, she says that no vanilla form of Fallout 4 or it's DLCs comes with a "brick" building category, that when it was there, It had to come from a mod and the only mod from my list, would have to be Sim Settlements or one of the related SS Mods. I had it, I liked the stuff I could build, but now it's gone. But I guess I was not supposed to have it in the first place. :blush

But I thought the SS Mod author(s) might like to know this, or maybe they are already familiar.

@Huntn First and foremost I am really glad rolling back fixed your menus. That is a good thing. :declare

There are no brick walls added by SS or add-on into the workshop menu. In my IMHO CBBE or Sim Settlements did not break your menus in anyway. :pardon

I am trying to help but let's not start with this-mod or that-mod broke your game. Users break games. Now I am not trying to be mean just direct, that is not the etiquette that will accomplish anything and it really pisses some authors off.

Ok, rant is done. I am trying to teach something here.

Now I will help you and I do care about your problem, and I did pass your question on the discord. And wonderful @damanding had a great suggestion. Did you or have you ever had any creation club files installed? The Creation club mods have "no plugs" so don't show up in your load order under the plug-in section but do add workshop menus. Slocum joes does have brick walls. Is a prerequisite for some SS plot content and this would explain all the issues you are seeing.

So, next, tell us what mod organizer you are using. :bye so we can direct you to the mods tab and please let us know if you have used or downloaded any creation club content?

Question 15- Sim Settlements Question:
Once a City Plan hits Level 3 and it is complete, I have one such settlement at Tenpines Bluff that only has 10 occupants although the recruiting beacon is on. Is that because although I just removed the City Plan Leader, and the City Plan is still in effect? I don't want to remove the development, but I want more people here. Do I to remove the City Plan, to allow settlers to start arriving, or my just removing the Leader, will that free the city up for more citizens to arrive? Thank you.

First of all, I don't believe I have accused any Mod Authors of breaking my game at least my intent. Just trying to figure out which Mod maybe involved in a game issue. :) I was just saying of the mods I have installed this time around, none have building parts except Sim Settlements. And this time around Sim Settlements would have been the only mod that might remotely add brick walls.

That said, back when I first played this game in 2016, I did have a mod that let you build a house stick by stick called Simply Modular Housing (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/15108). When I started up the game several years later, as I jog my memory, I did not reinstall the game from scratch, but restarted and I removed most of the old mods, but left some and disabled them. Simply Modular Housing was there when I started this new game I am currently playing, but then I deleted it through the in-game Mod manager. I started a fresh game before deleting it.
As far as I remember this brick wall option was there when I started the replay last summer, and I'll assume it was there back several years ago when I stopped playing Fallout 4. That just came to me. Before now, I just assumed that it was there because it was included with a DLC. :blush

Now as far as mod managers the approach I've used which may not be the best, is that if there is a mod I want like Sim Settlements and it is available in-game, I will install it there. If I can't find it in-game, I then go to Nexus Mods, find it, manually download it, and then use NMM to install the mod into the game.
I have not installed anything from Creation Club. Now as far as wanting to get the brick wall option back, if it was not include with the DLCs, I don't really need it. The paneled wall were nice, but I do have a long list of currently active mods, and don't want to add to the game load if I can help it. I was just thinking that I was missing something from the vanilla game and that appears to be incorrect.
I appreiciate the help you have provided! :)

Looking for an answer to this please:
