Some easy beginner questions

Hey all,

This is an amazing mod but getting started is a bit overwhelming. Luckily I've played enough FO3 that the gameplay is simple enough. I'm just trying to figure out the vanilla building system and SS2. I think I have the theory down. I have some technical questions:
  1. Besides getting to level 2, what does the level 1 caravan plot do?
    1. Is there a guide showing a quick way to level up the plot?
    2. What happens if you use SS2 and vanilla caravans?
  2. Are there settlement reports? I'd love to be able to see a list of a settlement's plots and their status. That way I know what to work on. The game isn't as much fun if I need to keep notes.
  3. Where do things go when you store them in the workshop and how do we get them out? I don't see them in the workshop and I can't magically recreate it via building.
    1. If you store a build item in the workshop, will settlers use it/disassemble it?

Caravans auto generate a "provisioner" line between close enough together settlements, which also joins the "Virtual Storage" of those settlements together. Additionally they can redistribute excess food/water around the 'trade network' if one has more than it needs but another doesnt have enough.
The downside of them (besides the cost) is they only work over a finite range - about the distance of Sanctuary - Tenpines.

To level up, plots need the HUD's food/water/defense meters full, total happiness there above 70, at least 3 ingame days to have passed, and probably wants electricity too.

Yaugie, caravans dont consume other settlements in a radius do they? You still have to have a caravan within each settlement for that particular settlement to be included in the virtual economy? correct? Every settlement needs a caravan.

Yes, each settlement needs one of their own if you want it to be on the trade network.
The range of the auto connection is such that every settlement, with the sole exception of Nuka World Red Rocket, has at least one other one it CAN reach to link to. (not counting any you might have from other mods, which can be iffy for a number of reasons) I'm going to use the ones in the south starting from Jamaica Plain in my own next game, partly to test the length of those links.

I thought I read that they didn't do that until lvl 2 - hence the confusion. Thanks for clearing that up!
Nah, Level 2 unlocks the sort of "fast travel" and one of the Beacon types, from memory.
"Trade routes" are the baseline function of them; could probably leave them at level 1 if thats all you want them for, to be honest.
