Roof valleys

Hey Devs. Here is a suggestion/request. Please add roof valleys to the menu. Make them if you have to :) There are hips, but no valleys that i can find, and this doesn't allow for nice roof systems. Fortunately with the green house, glass roof pieces i was able to take the hip piece, use setangle x 180 to flip it upside down and it works well enough for a valley, as you can see in this screenshot. But, i can't do that with solid pieces, because the top and bottom are not the same. This is something that should have been added to FO4 from the beginning. Inverting that would be a “very interesting” piece of kitbashing/nifsurgery - if possible at all without using 3DS Max

/thinking

—edit—

Note that they likely wouldn’t get added into SS2 - the mod is reaching the size-limit already.

Inverting that...
I read the post to mean FreudSlip wants to do this with solid (non glass?) roofs, but because they're made to look different from the bottom than the top, this trick can't be used with them. I'm sure everything you said applies in both cases, though.

And yeah, vanilla roofing options are just so damn inadequate.

Yeah, i figured it was wishful thinking, considering it not a simple snag like all the other pieces. They would all have to be made from scratch i presume. I had no intentions on getting into building assets for the game, but i may have to make just one contribution. :) I'm a professional builder, irl, and this is really bugging me in this life. lol. But, i also have plenty of game development experience, albeit old school, so i can make some impactful contributions if i get inspired. :)

An inverted roof peak doesn't even make sense, the whole point of a roof is to keep water (rain) out, having an inverted peak would allow a spot for water to pool and rot through the roof material. That being said I know this is a game, there is suspension of disbelief, this would be a minor thing and, probably not noticeable by most.

it's a common and essential component to many roof systems irl. The valley is not level...it's pitched. The water will flow down. 1611182204677.png

hmm, I've never heard of the intersection of gables called a valley. I took it to mean an inverted peak which would be flat (y'know, a valley), hence my comment about it not making sense. That being said, your original image wasn't entirely clear since you didn't isolate the part you wanted from the 20 other roof tiles although I should have looked it up to be sure of my own comments validity before posting.

I wish you the best of luck in this project my man. But yeah... this is specific enough and really something that you seem to be the only person really bothered by it, you really might have to put in the work. But the gang is super helpful.

Understood. I find it a bit odd that many of the members here don't seem to connect SS2 with general structure building, though. I find it absolutely essential in the building of SS2 cities. None of the vanilla settlements have sufficient interior areas for all of the wonderful interior plots available. You must build structures to house interior plots in general. I know one roof group doesn't seem like much. But, you would be surprised just how nice it would have when you build. If it was available, builds would tend to be just a little better since it opens up better, or morever...complete layout combinations for structures.

Untrue! I would kill for any and all roofing options! It's truly baffling to me that Bethesda felt like corrugated tin roof, corrugated tin roof with holes in it, and curved piece of sheet metal would be enough.

I also find it peculiar. FH gave us barns, WW gave us warehouses - yet these have no roof valleys as described.

Don't forget about the bed sheet haphazardly draped across some wood beams! The first stiff wind would shred that thing up so fast (if it's even attached, - which it doesn't look like - and if not... :crazy ), but I guess the good news is you wouldn't be able to tell the difference...

I'd 100% download any roofing mod I come across, because this has been driving me slowly insane since I built my first structures.

Cool? Do you want to make them? Then it doesn't matter. It means one of you two has to do it.

If you aren't a modder actively doing those roofs, my point stands. Someone needs to do it and there is nobody that seems to be working on it. If a modder is doing it then I'll retract my statement and let people know to wait for that person to be done with his mod.

But SS2 modders aren't necessarily interested in modding because they wanted to bring real world realistic roofing to a post apocalyptic retro futurist game. I know a lot of addon makers are here because it seemed to them to be easier to make plots by putting Bethesda assets together and call it a building than it was to make mod anywhere else. So in response to :

I am not surprised one bit. You're a builder in real life, it's something you care about. Most people are't builders in real life so... I think you can finish the math. I'm not saying there are zero builders interested in architechture but overall the SS community is not here making content from their own creation. It's the framework of SS2 over the framework made by Bethesda and the assets are all there. Honestly if people had to make their own assets from scratch, not sure there would be many addon makers around. Even the ones I know that do it got into it after starting with the base content and then started making 3D models to supplement their own work.

A few minor roofing “enhancements”...
