Old Post New to Sims Settlements. Need advice!

Hello. I just tried Sim Settlements for the first time and I had to restart my game lol. Mainly because, I didn't know I have to scrap everything I can in Vanilla before auto assign a leader to the settlement. (i.e. Sanctuary) Also, I switched the options too much beween respect build limit and max dwellers limit. When I teleport to Sanctuary it CTD immediately and its only level 1.

My question which I like to put up is, what settings should I put for Sim Settlements if I (well, Im lazy and don't like building, and I like the assigned leader to do it) want to build in almost every buildable area, or least the required number for minutemen?

Should dynamic be off, respect build limit be on, max number of vanilla dwellers on, and the rest off? Please advise.

:bye The hollow tape has a wizard. I would run it. It would probably answer the same questions for how you want to set up your game and then if you didn’t like it you can go back and change it?
:acute

:blush
The holotape is the perfect tool for a new user to get used to using. That’s why I’m pushing it so hard. It’ll save you a lot of questions and problems.:grin Down the line.

Specifically, the holotape asks you how much involvement you want to have with the settlement building and interactions.:dont

Sounds like your running RoTC. Id recommend installing Conqueror (Expansion 3), as you can use it to auto build settlements (So you have that option) and from the sound of it, you dont like building, so Im assuming you like the combat, (which Conquorer does a great job of doing). Id also go ahead and just use the wizard. gameplay is incredibly tailored to the individual. Navigating the holotape is practically insane, as its trial and error. Since your new, I would use the easiest option for simulation, as the second and third auto build options require you to babysit your settlers. Hope this helps. Also, Kinggath posts really good tutorials (like this one):

I'll add that you have to let the settlement develop at it's own pace. Having a bit of patience is a good thing. More surprises, some good, some not so good. You will learn what you like and do not like.

I started a new game and used configuration wizard to set to lowest setting. I turn on citizen needs and job requirement needs on. I turned multi-thread off. I guess multi-thread is the killer here. So far I have 4 settlements on auto build and got some lag but no CTD and after a while lag goes away and it seems to become smooth again for me. Thanks! I will report if anything strange comes up again.

Once, things get going I would flip multi-thread back to auto and see if things are ok?

There are a lot of things trying to run early game and it is not uncommon for things to get backed up @parrotheada1a has some good advice, be "patient.". When I start "launch a game session" and when I make a save "before exiting the game" I always "wait" for a bit and let the game do its thing and let the scripts fire up at the start or cool off when shutting down. I don't know for sure but I perceive this seemingly insignificant action as beneficial to the health of my save file.

I turned on multi-thread to 2. Been doing fine so far.
Thanks! Guess I will do that.

One more suggestion for you. Start up only one settlement about every 3rd or 4th game day. The reason is that the plot scripts all have an internal update timer based on the game clock. As they update, the clock restarts. And I believe that lower level plots have upgrade priority if I'm not mistaken.
