My Drive In

I thought I'd take a moment to show off my Drive In settlement. It's clean, fairly neat, and indicative of the style in which I build my cities. Not shown are the interior rooms in the back of the projector screen. The smaller room I turned into a personal bedroom for myself using a mod that adds beds that aren't recognized by the settlers or the settlement system. The larger room was converted into a workshop with all the various crafting stations.

This image showcases the heart of the settlement. The uppermost tiers, by the projector screen, are 2 rows of resi plots, 8 total. On the bottom there is something of a town square built around the water puddle. There are water pumps in the water, and around the water are 7 commercial plots and 2 entertainment plots.

This image, showcases the industrial district, featuring 2 normal industrial plots and 2 advanced plots, as well as additional housing.

This last image showcases the farming area as well as yet more housing. You can also see IDEK's logistics station and how I modified the diner portion of the projector tower by actually removing the diner pieces and building a central dining area (that no one ever uses lol). I have 1 unbuilt resi plot and 1 unbuilt farm, just waiting on the 20th settler to show up.

I like how you managed to keep it small and subtle which probably isn't something
I would manage to restrain myself to with all this buildable area.

Just a question, how do you make to avoid/remove the radiation damage of the lake at the middle of the settlement? I've never build there because of that lake (or I'm just too dumb to realize how to clean it lol)

You have to scrap EVERYTHING in the lake, not just the radiation barrels. There's usually also a mannequin and a traffic cone in there, and they hold the radiation even with the barrels gone. Once you do that, it can hold a couple of water purifiers and be a good source of water.

Nice job, HillbillyDave! My Starlight usually ends up haphazardly growing rather than with any reall plan, though if SS has finally taught me anything, it's how to build vertically in FO4. :)

I was so afraid of the radiation that I never got too much near the lake... LOL thanks for the info!

Thanks. How do you build vertically with SS? I can do it using interior plots but how do you do it with the 2x2 plots? Or did you mean using the interior plots? I started a residential tower at the Castle that I'm kinda proud of. I ran out of the sensors so I haven't finished building there but I got this tower where two of the resi plots are accessed from inside the castle and the top two are accessed from on top of the walls.

By building vertically I mean looking at the city plans taught me how to build things in the air, and not always at ground level, both interior and exterior plots.

That tower is great! Gives me more ideas for building up in tight spaces.

Nice layout. My Starlight always ends up super disorganized, which is why I'm trying to let the city plan run everything this time.

I feel the urge to tear down Starlight once more and rebuild. =)

Huh. I hadn't noticed the walls are two Shack/Metal/Concrete plots tall.

Good to know.

Hell yeah. Look at my Castle build.

Pre-built walls in my signature.

I got sidetracked and forgot to mention that I also try to make Starlight a marketplace. To me it just screams commercial center with all that 'flat' bitumen.
Although one thing I'd suggest it to build some utility walkways for the water purifiers in the center. I always try to keep it in mind after watching this video.

I've done similar things with my castle builds previously. Though for some reason I missed such an obvious thing. Though I found that sometimes I had gaps under the foundations, but that could be because I was placing them too high.
Most times I've build next to the walls with the warehouse and barn tile sets, so I missed the obvious correlation with the normal sized tiles.
