Municipal plots, when and when not to use them?

Hi, I have been playing SS2 for quite a while but previously, I have always appoint a companion for a city leader and just let them build, but lately I have been itching to build with ASAM sensors myself!

I have had a few settlements that are quite undeveloped, such as Sanctuary in which I slapped down like 9000 water purifiers and have a supply line connect it to the rest of the map to satisfy everyone's water needs. Do I still need to build a water plot for each settlement, or are they fine without?

In addition...what do I do with the power plots? Do I just slap it down and they'll power all my ASAP plots automatically? Do I have to connect the wires onto the power pylons manually? In what scenarios do I not need power plots?

Yes, that's the video I followed. I was hoping there's a different one as I wired the (already producing) electricity plot to a municipal pylon then to an occupied Communications plots but it's still not working.
Sometimes you have to move the pole around it won’t pick up power in some spots I like to place it close to the power plot and only have 1 wire running from it to the rest of the power grid don’t wire everything into it. You may also have to run a pole close to it to get the radiant power close enough to power the plot.

Do you have any red holo icons on row 2?

If the power plot was already operating, it may be that you need to grab the plot and let go of it with Tab for the connectors to realize the plot is there. Or that you need to grab the connectors close to the plot. Or both in succession. And then the other one again. This routine usually resolves that issue for me eventually.

Hmm I put the pole right next to the power plot as I'm building in a very tight space.

Did you try flipping the switch on the municipal pylon Off then On? That will tell SS2 to use that pole to output the produced settlement power. Sometimes the mechanic that handles this glitches and is registered to a different pole. This mostly happens with city plans and placing/scrapping multiple municipal pylons/switches. Only one of these will connect to the plot produced power per settlement. So if you have more than 1, only the first one placed will have power.

Also note that vanilla power generators do not send power to the municipal pylon, only plot produced power. Vanilla generators have to be wired into the grid.

So you can't have multiple municipal switches? I wanted to just add a municipal switch to every property and wire it up direct so i didnt have to run wires everywhere. Sounds like that isnt the case.

So im running into an issue with my only settlement that uses plots where i was using municipal power successfully. I built a 2x2 municipal power foundation plot and had no issues. However problems started when i scrapped said plot for an indoor. Power no longer goes to my single municipal switch or pylon, no matter how many times i scrap and recreate, refresh the plot, rebuild the plot, use the reset municipal power switch on the pylon or switch or rebuild back to a 2x2. I downloaded the power grid utility and everything comes up clean. Not sure whats going on. Very confused. Has a person assigned and everything.

I would say your issue is time. The script most likely has not finished running before you scrap and rebuild. It takes between 20-30 sec for a plot to initialize and complete construction of a building plan. After that, things like generated resources are calculated.

If you hover over the municipal power switch in workshop mode does it show power being generated? If so, remove all wires going to the switch and then replace them. Its like sometimes the wires forget they are connected.

If that doesn't work, go back to a save where everything was working. Scrap the existing power plot. Wait about a minute. Build the new power plot. Wait at least 5 min. If you do not have power at the municipal switch, toggle it off/on. If that still doesn't work, refresh the power plot.

Sometimes picking up and letting go of (Tab on PC) connectors, switches, plots etc in apparently random order can also jolt the municipal power to kick back into working.

Unfortunately i have done those steps already and waited quite a long time. Rebuilt my entire grid etc. I can provide a save if someone wants to play with it. I unfortunately dont have a save where this wasnt an issue. The is in sanctuary.

No power to the pylon or switch when built or reset. Plot is not stuck based on city manager and saying producing 25 power. Ui says 0. Resetting switch says loading forever. Resetting the plot makes the loading notification disappear but still no power from switch.
