Question Maybe a Bug? Vault 81 - Can't do Short Stories quest.

So, in my current run I executed Preston and gang, and that quest sits on "Failed: Talk to Preston" . So when 4.0.10 dropped and I finally had a reason to go to Vault 81, I headed off to meet the new NPC. I started Vault 81 being the good girl (I can be a douche to adults but ripping off a kid to get her stupid cat back is a level I am not at.) . I got Ashes back, gave blood to the good Doctor (and not, as Caleb (from Blood) said, somebody else's) , and went to do story time with the kids. Katy introduced me and when the first kid was suppose to ask a question the whole thing fails and nothing happens. No questions, no storytelling, nothing. I am wondering is it due to the fact the story revolves around saving Preston and fighting the deathclaw? As I executed Preston so I didn't exactly save him, per se, more like 'saved him' as Jezebel said the Mechanist's robots were 'saving' the Commonwealth. >.<

I ran into that same issue at Vault 81 but never looked any further into it, possibly because the quest was never completed that could be the issue. It does make sense though for the quest being dependent on another stage from a different quest being completed to tell the story.

Interesting. I think that I've done the Short Story quest before without having completed the Museum of Freedom quest. I use to always just leave the Quincey Five in the museum. I thought it was funny that I was telling a story about something that hadn't happened yet, but might maybe one day in the future. So not just not having completed the earlier quest, but failing it seems to maybe be the essential bit here.

Of course, all that being said, one of the features/selling points of the executioner perk is being able to break vanilla quests. I haven't done it yet, but ever since Conqueror was released I've been making plans to slaughter the Old Man in the institute and Elder Maxson right when I meet them, consequences be damned. Total freedom is it's own reward.

In my case, the quest is still active, it never dropped down to completed quests, but the objective is literally "Failed: Talk to Preston" . I don't think the game knows what to do. And now Austin isn't getting sick. I went outside of Vault 81, to that little encampment outside, sat and waited a day, run inside, he's in school healthy, so i ran back outside, waited another 24 hours, ran in, and Austin is still healthy. So I buggered off to talk to the new NPC who I hired to see what she needed.
