Solved Keeps Crashing talking to Codsworth

Hi so yesterday I made a new character to try and play a mostly clean game where I only have the main Sim Settlement mods and add-ons and a few other essential mods. I also verified my came files with steam and made sure I have the latest version of F4SE. I played to the point of talking to Codsworth for the first time coming out of Vault 111. I had 2 crashes before talking to Codsworth that I attributed to Conqueror's settlement building overloading the scripts because when I started the game up after those 2 crashes I was able to play again fine. However, now every time I try to talk to Codsworth my game freezes and I have to force close it.

I've had crashing issues with my previous playthrough as well that's why I wanted to start a clean game. I also have some power armor and pip boy skins from creation club.

Here is my mod list:
F4SE
Workshop framework
Unofficial fallout 4 Patch
Place everywhere
Achievements
Canary save file monitor
Sim settlements
Sim settlements mega pack year one
Sim settlements mega pack year two
Sim settlements mega pack year three
Sim settlements conqueror
Sim settlements city plan contest entries
Sim settlements city plan pack season 2

Is that your complete list?

Also did you wait in the vault for Conqueror pre build to finish before leaving?

you shouldnt leave the vault until conqueror has completed its work. if you leave the vault before then, you're gonna hit problems.

creation club crap has been known to interfere with starter quests - i'd remove them completely out of your load order.

one other thing - you look to have done pretty much everything correct - but can you tell me - did you delete your data folder, which would remove any loose files from your game? you can do that and run a verify of local files and steam will recreate it, empty. that can also be a cause of instability, if you have an odd loose file lingering.

Thanks for the help. I'm using Vortex to manage my 2 game versions so yes that is the complete list of enabled mods for this character. I have more enabled on my other character. This is also why I did not delete my data folder.

I did not wait till conquer finished building before I left the vault because I didn't know I needed to but I will definitely revert back to a save in the vault and wait till it's 100% built.

How do I delete my creation club content? And will it affect my other game to have them gone?

I have 67 CC items loaded and have never had an issue so will disagree with you there :)

Good note on the verify and clean. Always a good idea.

do a search for codsworth starter quests and the tunnel snakes "dlc" - i know first hand that cc club broke my game - wrote to bethesda about it gave them proof - they did nothing. remember they told us about mods not getting the same QA as bethesda CC mods would?
yeah.
cc club is overpriced being free.

I repackage, archive and then install all my CC content so I can disable it, makes it easy to troubleshoot that way. As it is true I have had some issues with some of the content.

CC content is nice when you do the above and install with a mod organizer:

What this thread is inspiring me to try is this:

Import from Bethesda.net
https://www.nexusmods.com/site/mods/120/?tab=description

Are there some mods on Bethesda.net you wish you could manage using Vortex? Well now you can!

Features

  • Install any mod downloaded from Bethesda.net into Vortex.
  • Get mod metadata from the Bethesda.net mod database (internet connection required).
  • Automatically unsubscribe from Bethesda.net when you import the mod.
  • Create an archive backup of the mod so you can reinstall it without going back into the game.
  • Optionally, import Creation Club content as a mod.

Note: After importing your mods they will no longer be managed by Bethesda.net and cannot be updated.

Pickysaurus is on FIRE! :aye:

i've got the addon that does this for mods on beth.net and it works brilliantly. i've pulled down the latest version of @damanding's Creative Clutter and it worked like a champ.
I'll continue to watch the CC addon, but I'm loathe to add that stuff to my game as it's proven to break stuff and I do not know what Bethesda's update policy is on the CC stuff.

Glad to see this is being used. I helped him test some more of it yesterday and an improved version will be available via updates on Monday or can be downloaded directly now.

Yeah, I downloaded it last night. I had all my CC_content repackaged so it didn't recognize it. As-is I do the same thing with the few Bethesda only mods I used, but I was able to see the on-screen process.

Going forward I believe this is what I'll be using, some of the CC files get updates so my next playthrough will be when I switch.

Thank you, Pinkysaurus and anyone else involved, this is a "good thing."

UPDATE. So I waited in Vault 111 for 2 hours till I got the confirmation message that conqueror had finished building. That fixed the issue with Codsworth and I was able to do some quests to level up with no issues but the occasional random crash. Now at level 7 I head over to Tenpines Bluff (which is built up by conqueror) to do the first Minutemen settlement quest but I'm consistently CTDing upon approach.

UPDATE 2. I deleted all my cc.....ba2 files from my data folder and that fixed it! I was even able to get into the settlements that were consistently crashing for my other character (except Sunshine Tidings Co-Op). I never thought simple texture files could create so many problems!

Thanks for all the help!
