So I am plaiyng the first sim settlements and i just saw how much better and more intricate Sim Settlements 2 looks and i alreayd had a play through with The original and I was wondering if I could load up Sim Settlements 2 and stop using the old one.Since it said you can't have both of them running. My question is can i ditch Sim settlements one which i was using on my play through and start playing sim settlements 2 on the same play through that the first one was on with no issue?

That is a Bad Idea, for multiple reasons - the big one being, it is NOT a good thing to remove a mod from a savegame in progress. No matter how thorough you are at deleting the objects and NPCs and whatever, certain things like scripts get 'baked into' the savegame.

So I would have to start a whole new play through, would that be the safest bet?

There is enough new stuff and new mechanics that it's like a whole new game. It's like saying "I really like Fallout 2 but want to play the new Fallout 3. Can I play Fallout 3 in Fallout 2?" And as good as everybody did adapting the SS1 RotC settlements to SS2 it still seems to have issues so I've just switched over to all native SS2 settlements, plots and mods (obviously some are still mods for "both").
I'd recommend starting a new playthrough where the Fallout 4 story is an afterthought and you're mainly focused on the settlements; it really pays off because of the depth of the new SS2 and what you can do.

Although the install instructions for SS2 state, don't uninstall SS1 and then install SS2 in the same game, I did it with a game I wasn't really playing anyways. I'm the kind of guy who gets curious about what happens, so I try it. Things were okay for awhile, everything seemed to be working all right. But then things started to go wrong; plots didn't build correctly, quests wouldn't progress, crashes were coming more and more frequently. Lots of errors and bad behaviour I have not seen in the playthrough where I started a new game with SS2.

Now then, if you want to continue to play two games with the different versions, download the Vortex mod manager from Nexus Mods (if you haven't already). Vortex has a beautiful profile system. You create a profile for each separate character, which includes their own save folder. Then you figure out which saves in the main folder belong to which character and move them into that folder. After you enable the profile, you can enable or disable whichever mods you want that character to use. I have one character who uses the SS1 mods and my newest playthrough using the SS2 mods. When I switch profiles, Vortex automatically disables everything that character isn't using. Makes life so much easier!
