Hostile Takeover quest starting issue

Hello everyone, I searched but didn't see any issues discussed like what I'm experiencing.

I rescued Jake and saved Lupe, I got a quest update for Hostile Takeover and to head back to my settlement (in this case Sanctuary).
I had saved Wise at Vault 75 and successfully recruited him.
I had a radio signal warning me an attack was immanent.

So I'm here, chillin on a roof in some power armor with a mini gun waiting for the gunners in the rain, but they're not showing up. Should I wait outside the settlement for the attack to trigger, or just wait for the attack? I was thinking of loading a previous save and listening to the radio call before going to Sanctuary also.

I'm using SS2Ch2, no conqueror or Ch1.

So ready for the fight!
There should be a quest marker in Sanctuary that you have to "arrive at" before gunners will appear.

Yeah, it was more or less at the work bench area. It went away, and I climbed up to the roof above it. I'll hand out by the workbench and see if that does anything.

Didn't work, and hanging out down by the river outside the quest marker radius doesn't change anything either.

I was thinking about using
"set.stage SS2C2_Sirick_MQ18 50"
to start the attack but I don't want break anything.

If you have a save from before you arrived in Sanctuary, you could reload that and try again. I know when I played this the first time, I didn't hang out at the marker and nothing happened until I went back to it. You should be hearing an announcement from the gunners.
Last time I played it, I hung out at the marker until the fighting began. Gunners can spawn in a few places, sometimes they come in around the path into Sanctuary from Vault 111.

I've tried going back to earlier saves and rescuing Jake again, but still the same story.

I managed to get through it using the "setstage" command. Aiden's private frequency hasn't come up yet, but I'm assuming it take a while in game to do so.

I am back to FO4 and SS2 after a long time away and having the same issue with triggering the gunners attack. I've noticed something that is possibly relevant. I have Treadwell's broadcast active, meaning that I've met them but haven't yet done their missions, and Jake's private frequency grayed out. Thinking that it may trigger something, I attempted to listen to Jake's frequency anyways and found that I hear Archibald's message on Jake's frequency instead of static or Jake himself.

I was playing with the sound off at the time, so I don't know if this happened when I got the initial message to head to Sanctuary, but I was thinking that this could be a possible cause for this quest not progressing. No idea how to proceed in testing it myself but, if anyone has any suggestions, I would be happy to try.

Edited to add: Ok, I just loaded a save leaving The Ron's at Stage 105 of The Disappearance of Jake Evans and the same thing occurred. I hear Archibald's message on Jake's frequency. In a little while, and unless someone tells me I'm being silly, I think I'll go to a save even further back to complete A&T's mission before making any further progress in Chapter 2 and see if that makes any difference.

Adding one more thing that occurred to me before I do some actual work today. I was able to fast travel to Sanctuary with Hostile Takeover active. If I remember right, that isn't supposed to be the case.

  • Changed the transmitter frequency used by Archibald and Treadwell to try and resolve a conflict some players were experiencing with the frequency Jake uses to contact the player.
--- Existing saves with this issue will need to complete the quest the radio broadcast leads to, in order to clear Jake’s frequency again.
- from patch 2.3.1
You probably need to finish Archibald's quest, yeah. I'm not sure if you really need to roll back for this though. Technically it doesn't even need the broadcast, I think (even though they're amusing to play).
About the gunner attack, I believe it's either script lag or god knows what but if you leave the area and return, and walk around to the edges of the settlement or the workshop, eventually it starts.

I updated but hadn't checked the patch notes, that does explain it. I'll try finishing Archibald's quest and waiting for the gunner attack. Thank you for the response, Antoine.

ETA: Yep, this solved my issue. I finished the Not All Artists Starve quest and more or less immediately got the prompt to listen to the strange radio frequency. All seems good to go from here on out. Thanks again!

Only have SS2 installed and this is why i gave up on this mod last year because of this problem. to my suprise its still here. and doing the SAME exact thing as before. do they have a QA team for this stuff? I even used the Cheat in the pipboy to skip everything up to this mission and it does nothing I click the Hostile Takeover mision and close the pip boy and nothing happens. am i suposed to wait a few days?

When you say you only have SS2 installed, that can be more vague than you might think. What platform are you on? What is your complete load order? These days a new important question is have you updated to the newest FO4 version, or are you still on the pre-update version?

When I use the skip quest cheat in the pipboy during dark horizions it works fine. but if i use it after the misisions completed it wont triugger the qest to start nor will jakes radio station come on. it will come on though when use the cheat PRIOR to completing Dark Horizions. this isnt a small isolated issue neither, my friends had this same problem with alot of quests in this game as well as many others ive heard from in Discord as wel.

Since SS2 seems to be working at a basic level for you, I am guessing that you also have Worksop Framework and HUD Frramework installed? Are you using SS2 Extended? For pc players, I typically ask for your load order.txt and plugins.txt, so we can see everything that might be in play.

Since you installed recently, it seems likely you are playing with the next gen update, which adds a wrinkle to all trouble shooting with mods right now. I’m currently using the updated FO4, so when I am back at my computer I’ll see if I can replicate your issue. Historically, I have not run into this problem, but something might have changed. I am not using Tales or AR2 (or even F4SE) on my current playthrough, which might help narrow it down to a conflict with one of those.

Looking at your first post in this topic again, and having just tried to emulate your issue, I am hoping that you may just need to wait the 3 or so in-game days from the completion of Dark Horizons for Martial Law to start up. On my tests, it was a little over 3 days before the signal popped up for me (just waiting for 72, or even 96, hours didn't do it for me - I had to play a bit, working on settlements or questing, I'm guessing to give some scripts some time to complete). With and without quest skipping, and with and without dealing with the Gunner attacks of Hostile Takeover, a bit after the 3 day mark I did eventually receive Aiden's signal.

If you continue to have the same issue, and your total mod load order is 20 or fewer mods, if you can provide a copy of your save file at the point where you run into the problem, the team may be able to reproduce the issue in your save, and then log a bug report for it. kinggath and team have stressed that they need to be able to reproduce a bug in order to be able to address it, and reproducing some of these bugs has been tough.

i got it working i just went back to a previous save and skipped to the next quest. I was already at the end anyway so i didnt miss anything. thanks though. I Didnt know you had to wait 3 or 4 in game days for the quest to pop. I thought it was supposed to continue right after the last one ended.
