Question Game crashes to desktop whenever I'm in Sanctuary?

This happens regardless of whether or not there's a city plan in place in the settlement. It happens in old saves with a level 3 city plan and new playthroughs where I haven't even built anything yet. None of the other settlements in the area have any construction in them. I've attached my mod list below, I also have the most recent version of F4SE installed as well as the most recent version of Place Everywhere. Disabling Place Everywhere and Scrap Everything doesn't seem to help with stability. Fast traveling to the settlement means an almost immediate crash, walking from RR to Sanctuary gives me a few extra minutes but still ultimately results in a crash. I know this has been a pretty common problem for other players in the past and was hoping that someone had come up with a solution that I'd missed when researching.

Sanctuary is one of my favorite settlements and I wanted to make it my headquarters for Conqueror, but that won't be possible if this issue persists.

EDIT: Just tried loading a save I have at Red Rocket and now the game is immediately crashing there as well. Some issue caused by the mods I have (I presume) has made my game unplayable and I don't have the technical expertise to figure out what it is or fix it without going back to vanilla.

New playthroughs with nothing built is very confusing... There's got to be some mod in your order that has tweaked something in Sanctuary.

Hopefully someone will recognize the culprit..

My bet would be it's a load order issue and that tweaking the order your mods are in will end up fixing this. Though I'm not sure the best way to being tackling an issue like that. @RayBo Any tips you can offer in this regard?

Well I guess we all know scrap everything does modify sanctuary in the way that it disables precombines there, and I've had bad experiences with prebuilts in the past with it, Finch Farm always scraps the bridge for me if i have scrap everything active.

Open up xEdit load up your mods and go to the worldspace section and look for anything that alters sanctuary, then

@McMasters, Here are my suggestions?

If the video isn't in HD, give it another 10min while youtube processes it :declare

When you restart your game "What I do"
If I use pre-built city plans.
1) I take the prompt - suggestion of where not to use them
2) I select pre-builts only to level 1
3) I stay in that "Bathroom" until it is done with the pre-builts. I do not shut off my computer. I just wait until done. :crazy

I am old so that isn't an issue for me, best not to be in a hurry in the bathroom. :focus

That is it.

I hope this helps :good

if you're getting a crash as you describe, it's probably safe to say that game is borked beyond recovery.
something you have done, or something in your game is causing the issue.
things to look out for;

1. scrap mods.
2. start up mods.
3. removing mods directly after starting.
4. incorrectly installed mods.
5. console commands.

if i were you, i'd start over.

remove all your mods using your mod manager, empty/delete your data folder, then get steam to validate your game files. let it replace what's missing.

at this point, you are back with a vanilla game.

install UFO4P and the sim-settlements mods and start the game with only UFO4P and conqueror/ss/ss 3-in-1 enabled.

start everything up, get to the point where you are about to leave the vault. make a hard save (not a quick or exit save). leave the vault. make another hard save, exit the game.

you can now use your mod manager to re-install your mods (you should have the mod archives still available on your system.

install your mods you want to play with, go to sanctuary, do the starter quests, prepare to go to concorde or wherever. make a hard save. exit the game. restart.

doing all this is laborious, but it will give you several consistent starting points to go back to should you hit issues.

Scrap Everything just got an update. "Fixed invalid mesh path that caused CtD in some cases when used with Sim Settlements" from the changelogs.

I use the Ultimate Edition and that version with that fix has actually been around for almost a month now (24 Jun) that was an update for the standard edition , you have all DLC so im guessing you use Ultimate.

I also use the Ultimate Version and thought I had everything updated properly. I have a gut feeling that Scrap Everything might be what's causing my issues but I'm not certain. Have you had any issues with it causing crashes? That would really suck if this is the problem because Scrap Everything is actually one of my favorite mods, I love being able to tidy the settlements.

I really appreciate this, I'll give it a try this afternoon and see what happens.

Well I had to disable it this save because Finch Farm kept getting screwed by the mod, this save I am not crashing , if I do its very rare, but I had it enabled at the very start, I removed it like after a day or so of gameplay, so I wouldn't know if thats a source for crashes but I know it does conflict in a lot of ways with the prebuilts

If you are doing a manual build, and want a simple scraping solution I recommend

Add this, for a winner - winner rad-chicken dinner. That is much more FPS friendly and safer than SE.
No Ugly Plants And More - Invisible Vines Shrubs Brambles Grasses Etc

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/32637

Between the two you will get results that don’t break precombines look amazing don’t conflict with green mods, help keep your FPS from tanking, and don’t run the chances of screwing your nav mesh for the rest of your game! :acute

raybo you're definitely earning that sales bonus! :)

Two big differences:

1 - I don’t get paid
2 - I use what sell

It is an investment in our authors. Therefore our own enjoyment and entertainment.

It is going to be a very long time until we get another Fallout game.

It is up to us users to take very good care of our authors.
