Solved CTD on prebuild

I am trying to start a new game and have repeatedly had crashes before the prebuild is finished. Several times is has happened when I wasn't at my PC, but the times I have seen it have all been when stage one (place items) is at 100%. I'm no playing the game...I'm not even in the post war commonwealth. I just start a new game, wait for the conqueror prompt, put my preferences in, and leave it alone in the prewar bathroom until it's done. I'm starting the city plans at stage 2 and am allowing them to advance as I play. Graphic settings high.

I have papyrus logs for the last two crashes, but it's all a bit...over my head.

My mod list is pretty much just SS 3-1, mega packs, conqueror, a couple of plot add-ons, some faction packs, and some a half dozen long trusted mods like AWKCR, CBBE, UFO4P, and the like. Mods that I have run for a very long time without issue. I'd post the mod list but I can't seem to find where Vortex plops it.

Been running SS for a couple years on the machine, so I know the specs are fine.

Prewar is unstable. Just enable enough mods to create your character. Save. Exit. Then enable only conqueror related mods. Do your prebuilds. Enable your other mods at the vault elevator exit.

It's called baking a sav . @RayBo has posted many times on this. Just do a search for it.

I'll give it a shot- at this point I have nothing to loose. That said the first couple of crashes during prebuild I had were in 111 just before I press the button for the exit door to open. The prebuild started during the preware intro, but the point at which they crashed was just before leaving the vault.
 
Well that didn't work either. Started new game with just character creation mods enabled, saved, exited to desktop. Enabled my Sim Settlement mods, restarted, loaded that save, and put in my Conqueror selections, CTD at 100% placing objects.

I think I may have isolated the trigger. I tried starting up with having factions already controlling settlements set to off (default) and I got past the crash point. I want it set to on, but it crashes my game. I'm going to try setting it to on, but reducing the number of factions.

I do prebuilds, and even myself had settlements pre-conquerored - but I didn't use factions beyond the normal base game ones - MM, Raiders, Rust Devils, Gunners... perhaps one of the faction packs you have is an issue...

Also, I would turn off the faction decorations - as placement is currently wonky at best... and perhaps there is an issue.

So, unless, it is a faction problem, unless you have some wonky character creation mod (not creation club), I don't what to suggest... perhaps your LO in spoilers...

I'll take a look. Probably going to add one at a time and see if it's one of the faction packs or simply the number of them. Ill also try switching off decorations.

It’s annoying to wait but the consequences of not doing so are harsh. I get CTDs about 50% of the time when I rush SS-C.

all my playthrus/tests involve pre-builds. pre-builds have never blown up the game (beyond rushing).

check the faction pack versions as well. I’ve had a couple users say they’ve had version issues (textures, not CTD).

Missing textures can cause ctd.

I then tried something else MrCJon suggested, I turned faction decorations to off. I was starting to think this might be the culprit, so for this test I enabled all of my faction packs at the same time and made all my other option selections the same as usual. The results?

No crash. Took about 90 minutes, but in the end Conqueror finished doing it's thing and I was able to play to the vault entrance. Made a save, and exited the vault successfully.

Then I got a crash, but that is a different trigger so I'll start a different thread.

When you get outside the vault, stand and wait 5 to 10 minutes real time.

Did by chance you do Sanctuary/Red Rocket/Abernathy together? If so, that is a hard load on the system - triangle of death.... I would only have Abernathy pre-built - leave the other 2 empty...

I started a separate thread, but briefly of the triangle of death area, only Abernathy was prebuilt. I have not tried standing outside for 5-10 minutes real time. Can't hurt.

You have to let the game load before you start going about and changing zones and killing things - so much has to get loaded and rendered...
 
I encountered the same problem as the original post. Crashed one on step 1/4, then a second time at step 4/4. I tried a 3rd time with "Faction Decoration OFF" and it worked.

3 tries is not a lot of data to pull hypotheses from, but I thought I should share anyway.
