Conversion Plots and Scrap Categories Option

How exactly dow Conversion plots work when playing on Scrap Catergorie difficulty?

A "Lumberyard" consumes steel and produces wood according to its description. both are in the categorie building materials, so its a useless plot for Scrap Categorie Difficulty?

Fiber Optics Factory creates Fiber obitcs (Rare materials) from Circutry (machine parts) and Fiberglass (building materials), so its just a worse rare materials gatherer for Scrap Categorie Difficulty?

By the time they hit level 3, they will produce more resources than they consume (it's a 115% ratio, for accuracy's sake), so they'd technically be a net positive by then, but that's a lot of cost in terms of time and resources to get there. I guess for the ones that convert to a different category, it MIGHT be worth it, if you're running at a massive surplus of one but not enough of another - although it'd probably still be better to just build another Rare Materials plot.

Personally, I don't really bother with building most of them if not playing on Components level difficulty - Distillery is an exception because there's a fun little sidequest attached to that building. (hint: drink the half-distilled liquid in the bathtub)
Some of them - Distillery and Body Armor Tech - do produce goods to go into the Commercial Plot vendor lists too, if that helps.

Thx for the quickl answer.

Sad to hear that they are mainly there for the components difficulty. I hope in the future we can get something like advanced and hightech industrial plans, similar to the other plots (farms, defense, water municipal,....).
In the current balance i need quiet a lot of organic materials, it would be nice if i could at some point upgrade to higher yield industrial plots, instead of putting down my 7. regualr organics gathering. I really like how advanced farms (and later high tech) opens up the possibility of 1 or 2 farm settlements providing enough food for many many other cities.

There are some Conversion typs that add to store inventory? I thought therse where the production type plans? Like the workshop which creats stuff for the furniture store.

Generally yes, but it isnt a 100% set in stone rule. Those couple of plots i mentioned actually used to BE Production type but it got changed in the last major patch.
Plots can technically do any combination of the 'output types' on any plot type - there is a couple of Agricultural Plots from Addons I use a bit myself that are also directly Producing vendor output as well as creating generic food too.

I don't know - I think conversion plots can help even on categories gameplay if you are producing way too much of a certain resource. Like if you have building materials up the wazoo. I'm working right now on two interior conversion plots - one is going to change steel and aluminum into screws, gears, and springs, so it will be a conversion of building materials to machine parts - another is going to take glass, wood, and a small amount of acid and turn it into antiseptic (think producing lye from burned wood ash and water). That's building materials and a touch of organic materials into rare materials. I think it helps because in the beginning you are often so consumed with hoarding building materials and then it overwhelms your storage, so this would slowly start taking that storage and changing it into the higher level categories.

Yeah, edited my post to make it clearer that is just my own personal preference for playstyle. They definitely do still have a place on Categories level.

I'll grant you that I think that the ones that exists are way more limited in utility when you go are at the components level, certainly. I think some of that is just because not a lot of add-ons have added conversion plots, but also because I think the core SS2 ones were designed with component play in mind. I play on categories myself, just because I've decided life is to short to realize all the homes in my settlement have suddenly stopped working because I ran out of asbestos and then I have to go running around trying to find a pack of cigarettes somewhere to pay the operating costs for a house . . . and categories is still plenty challenging at times.

Yeah I have mostly made peace with the notion that full Components level just isnt for me, I cant get the balance of incomes right at all, always ending up with a storage that is 90% Glass or something, everything spiraling into failure, and no real way to deal with that.
Just doesnt help with this constant niggle I have that I am not playing the mod "correctly", something that has been on my mind a lot lately.

I still play on components... Does that make me a masochist? :scratchhead
There is the mod cbrgamer2 made to dump resources that are clogging up the storage.
I don't know if there is a "correctly." Its been over a year and I still haven't figured out a lot of systems...
