Clean up the Castle, or leave it Mirelurk-y?

I started a new game, and to get a headstart on building my city plan with a clean save I used the cheat terminal to help me "exterminate" the Castle occupants. It's come to my attention, however, that the Mirelurk gunk only gets scrapped when you complete the Minutemen quest line. I'm thinking about building over it in order for non-Minutemen folks (especially Conqueror players) can have a functional settlement even with the mess.

But... is there a way to scrap these items with a mod such as Scrap Everything or Spring Cleaning (although I hesitate to use them because of cell resets) and include that in the scrap profile?

Any thoughts or input?

There is a save included with the City Plan Contest mod that has already completed the Minutemen quests up to taking over the Castle. If you're wanting to build without the Mirelurk junk, I suspect that's the best way to go. Mods like Scrap Everything and Spring Cleaning are explicitly not allowed in the City Plan Contest, IIRC, due to issues they cause/precombines they break, some of which can occur just by having them installed. Similarly, disabling precombines in the INI isn't allowed.

That said, there is another option; if you can select something in the console with precombines enabled, then you can use the Disable and MarkForDelete commands on it. I don't know if that applies to the mirelurk remnants but if it does, you could manually go around and remove each piece. You're probably better off just using the save that's already got them gone, though, especially since city plans don't normally unlock for the Castle until the player's completed the Minutemen quest line up to that point.

For the pc, there is another method that I recently found on reddit and have successfully used in my current game as BoS Liberator (https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/410vca/psa_cleaning_up_the_castle_without_joining_the/ )
  1. Select any pile of mirelurk stuff in console and type disable, this will give an error saying something like "reference (abc) cannot be disabled because (xyz) is enabled".
  2. Type "prid xyz" to select the parent state thing of the mirelurk stuff.
  3. Type "disable" to disable all of the stuff that is normally removed from The Castle.
  4. Disable or markfordelete all the mirelurk eggs (there are a lot, be warned).
I did this at about Level 25, proceeded to buildup the castle, and I am now at Level 47 without any problems at the Castle.

Hopefully, this will help you.

PS: best to save the game before you start this

Thank you both!! I thought I had remembered scrapping mods being against the rules but I had a blonde moment I guess. I need to go back over those today before I really start building.
I had thought about the prid command for that but I didn't want to delete something that would then show up in someone else's game... Plus it's tedious and I'm impatient haha!

Thank you both for your input, this will surely get me off on the right start.

Your welcome. Without being long winded and having a senior moment :grin, you should be very careful using any scrap mods. There are numerous threads on this site discussing this issue.

Yeah, I used them a couple of years ago prior to a clean reinstall... Probably partly because they broke my game along with those precombines
I think a part of me hoped they would have fixed the issue by now, but... Nope, it seems!
