City Plan level-ups and changing building plans

I'm currently building a plan for the SS2 city plan contest, and as I move the settlement from its level 2 to level 3 end-state, I want to try to alter some of my existing plot plans to save space/build limit. I've seen some bits in the SS1 archives that say "don't move them after placing", but nothing about whether or not we can alter the chosen building plan between levels.

If I have a Residential single-occupant at City Level 2, and the Level 3 plan has that plot as a Residential Multi-occupant, will it properly change to the new plan during level-up, or am I about to break things?

This is a fantastic question, hope this helps.
The level, building plan, skin, and plot type are all recorded in each export (level) and will be applied when the player uses it. Basically assume that whatever you do in your save which becomes the level will happen exactly that way in the City Plan (with minimal exception)

Perfect! Thank you for the fast answer, and I'll see you in the competition entry forum shortly!

Hey, I have question regarding this, what happens if a plot level up before the city plan, will the next city plan level change it to whatever level/plot it is supposed to be?

I am curious about how much modification you can do in multi-level plans.

From what I’ve seen, city plan level-up will a) alter building plans on an existing plot, and b) force the plot level on newly-created or newly-changed plots. It won’t force existing, unchanged building plans to delevel, however.

There is a setting to allow this or not. If set a certain way city plan upgrades can change plots to what they can upgrade into if the original plan has requirements your settlement can't meet. Or even a different branch than the original. There is a setting called Hold for Pre Plan I think its called.

so when planning (in a playthru not using a cityplan) this behaviour causes my planning go to the drain. Setting up a multi home since I want to save the space. when going to level 2 it's now a single home, wtf. Changing it to a multihome will force it back to lvl 1. So now i need to find the code to force it up in levels manually.... this is a tad annoying. And the freedom of planning is.. well disturbed. Since I'm not using a city plan it should work as a single level. Only plots do their upgrade when their conditions are met. So why the hell are they changing.

I've never even heard of plots changing designs on you when you're not using a City Plan... can you give some more detail? Is it happening every time, or only for one specific settler, or only for one specific house design?

Was the townhouse that also have a multiversion and the sky..shack, can't remember the name, both of them was multihome when at lvl 1... coming back a few days later (Game time) both leveled up to 2 and was singel home, skyshack had changed to some shack building so same theme, townhouse was now a townhouse for single person...
No worries since I found the code
cf forceplotlevel X -0 , X is the level number 1-3
it was more just a brief annoyance.
