Chapter 2 Teaser

Will I need to start a new game for this update?
Highly doubt it, unless you end up having mods that somehow conflicts with the new stuff, you should be fine. Although I would recommend starting a new game if you haven't finished chapter 1 recently, get that seamless transition and fresher memory.

Bit of a conundrum... my SS2 game is kinda borked, I can't play for more than 5 minutes or so before a random crash.

I've started a new profile on my mod manager (MO2) and a new game, one without any SS2 stuff (I'm basing the game around Crime And Punishment and Guns For Hire). When SS2 Chapter 2 drops, I plan to prune the first mod list, take out a bunch of unnecessary stuff, and just start over. The save game is corrupted.

What I want to know is... is there a way to jump to the end of Chapter 1? If not, I'd love a "been through this already" option in Chapter 1 where Jake doesn't waste our time with stupid stuff - I mean, it's not stupid the first time, but after a dozen or so times... I don't mind doing the main quests over, but I mean all the back and forth about him selling us on the ASAMs, the back and forth with the generator, the three beacons quests at the end... I'm just saying, if the fluff could be optionally trimmed to streamline the first chapter... I'm gonna be wanting to get into the new content ASAP.

Apologies if it's a big ask... but I feel like it's gonna be even more of an issue when Chapter 3 rolls around. Because at the end of Chapter 1 it kind of leaves you hanging, and then it tells you to go build up your settlements "because you're going to need them." Well, Fallout 4, or more specifically Gamebryo/Creation being the buggy POS/mess it is, can't handle a heavy/long save, so in doing exactly what the prompt tells you, leads to save file corruption. Then again, the other option, simply pausing the character, and running another character with another modlist profile, you come back after however many months and you forget so much about the world, it's not a much better solution. Not trying to I love you, definitely appreciate the mod and the team... I guess I'm just asking how y'all are doing it? Because hey, maybe I'm doing something wrong, and I could learn a better way.

There is the approved console commands listed on the Wiki, I guess. I would not be terribly surprised if they added an outright shortcut option in MCM or something too, though.

I just thought of something - somebody could do the absolute bare minimum (SS2 Chapter 1 being the ONLY mod installed) and then upload the save. I'll make a thread for it — I won't clutter this one. Come see me over there.

The only real issue I want to raise here is, I really want to know the release date so I can do all this on the last version of SS2 that doesn't contain Chapter 2. I know Kinggath said all the major bugs are out of SS2 Chapter 1, but I want the transition to be as clean as possible for the user. They're already going to drop the save into their packed mod list, so a bunch of things will be firing off when they load it up, including stuff from SS2, Workshop Framework, stuff like that. I'd want to keep that to a minimum. If trusted with the release date, I wouldn't tell anyone, and would only use the info to plan when I could actually make the save, and then I'd upload the save to the Nexus after Kinggath posts the Chapter 2 update.

For the love of god please make jake romanceable. he is such a doll!
Discussed that topic a while back, really wanted it to happen but it doesn't exactly seem to be high on their list, e.g. the voice director not looking forward to hearing the voice actor whisper sweet things into his ear a thousand times. XD
But hey, maybe we could at least get some friendly flirt options. Like, checking up on him, he goes "what brings you here?" and the player can go "just looking for love, sweetheart."
Or get the option to say "I like having you close"... if the context can prevent it from sounding creepy...
Just that nice bit of romantic tension that can be wrapped up in fanfiction. :grin

Doesn't Jake have a wife living somewhere in Boston though?
Ex-wife.
Jake and Katelyn drifted apart and separated sometime after Laura was born. And when Katelyn didn't even tell him that she and Laura were moving, I doubt he's interested in giving her a second chance. But yea, even if this technically means he's single, it doesn't mean he's interested in a new relationship just yet.

I'm wondering how many new characters are in Chapter 2? Will there be new unique settlers? Or will it expand on the ones we already have?

Their casting calls on the recruitment forum and their page on Casting Call Club have many really interesting characters, most seem like potential settlers. A few are performers, so unless they'll just show up in a new location, maybe we'll get theatrical or culture plots?
It would definitely be interesting to see a few settlers expanded, have them return in quests connected to new settlers, perhaps.

Knowing how I play I’ll probably kill her thinking she’s a raider or something if I come across her breaking ss2 and forcing me to start over. That’s assuming we ever get her added into the game.

Aye, as the recruitment post casting call shows - there will be more unique settlers.

On a side note: Those casting calls are for just those settler characters, handled by someone else (not me), and are open to public auditions.
