Question Can someone help with CTDs and micro-stuttering around settlements?

Hey guys,

I love the Sim Settlement mods, but I'm having difficulty visiting the settlements that are being built through Sim Settlements. Can anyone help?

I've come back to playing Fallout 4 a little while ago and figured I'd have a look at Sim Settlements along with Rise of the Commonwealth as I didn't feel like building up settlements myself again. Overall I really enjoy the settlement builds and the immersion it gives, but I am getting an intermittent micro-stutter and/or random crashes to desktop pretty frequently around settlements or after having recently visited one. The micro-stutter will appear after walking around a higher level settlement for a while and will only go away after going to an inside area somewhere away from settlements, saving, closing the game, loading the save. Then I'll be micro-stutter free until the game decides I have lingered within a settlement for too long again. Nothing too bothersome on the whole, just an additional thing I've noticed.

The CTDs are a little more frustrating as they seem to happen rather unprovoked, on any level of a Sim Settlement City Plan. The most recent one was at Covenant after letting the cell reset after finishing the quest there and killing everyone except Deezer and the cat. I planted down a desk, made Deezer the leader (through the mod 'Creations by COOTS'), then watching the tear down and build up standing in front of the workbench (without the cinematic panning). I waited for it to mention it finished recalculating the build limit, saw a new settler arrived, put down a IDEK Logistics desk and started looking for the new settler so I could assign them to the desk. Then I crashed to desktop. Next time I'll load in, it might be fine, I might be able to look around everywhere I want, or it might CTD again within half a minute.

These kinds of crashes can happen for me with any settlement managed Sim Settlement, not just specific ones from what I can tell. It can be just after putting down the City Plan, or when I visit a Level 0, 1, 2 or 3 City Plan after having been away for a while, regardless of whether I fast travel or just walk there. If I have a save within a settlement and CTD shortly after, if I then load my save, immediately travel away from the settlement, save and reload from that save I can always avoid getting into a CTD loop. So thus far I've never had to revert back to earlier saves because of CTDs, but it always feels like I'm flipping a coin whenever I'm visiting a settlement. It'll either lead to many CTDs or I can have a walk around, equip some new settlers with stuff, see if they have everything they need and what they've built while I was away, before going off on an adventure again.

I have a lot of mods installed through Vortex, most of them following the Fallout 4 mod list from Thuggyfield on the nexus, so it's possible some of these mods are problematic or interacting with Sim Settlements in a bad way. However, as I'm only experiencing the CTD and micro-stutter issues specifically in relation to settlements being built through Sim Settlements, I figured the best place to ask about it would be here. I have all DLC, I do not have the official High-res packs installed. Below I'll put some info on my system specs, modlist, ini files and such. If there's any additional info that could help, I'll be glad to share. I did have a previous mod setup and changed profiles through Vortex to revert back to Fallout 4 before I started modding. As I'm not too versed in all the ini file changes, it's possible there's some leftover stuff in there that could be a problem as well.

I have Fallout 4 Script Extender and I run the game on high settings. I started out with Sim Settlements on Ultra to see what it was like, have switched to Medium after the first CTDs with just Sanctuary and Red Rocket, but turning respecting the build limit off and having the mod auto-deal with upgrading, assigning and everything. I'm also running an ENB, 'Vogue ENB - Realism'. I can go adventuring and go about my business for hours staying at 60 FPS (capped through EN:cool: or very close to it, without any kinds of CTDs, micro-stuttering or any other kinds of bugs. At most I sometimes notice NPCs take a second to register I'm there and say something to/at me. Near some settlements managed by Sim Settlements, especially higher level ones, I notice a bit of a drop in FPS, but other than that everything seems to work perfectly until the game decides the time has come for the micro-stuttering to start or just sends me back to the desktop to try again. Sometimes just after selecting a new leader and setting the city plan in motion for the first time, I can also see some minor graphical glitches too, like Garvey's clothing spazzing out and pieces of it extending through the floor. Switching between clothing he's wearing then resolves that.

Thanks for reading and I hope you guys have some tips for me! :)

Have you got Buffout 4 installed? If not please install it. It will help a lot with tracking down CTD's.

I have not! I'll install it later today before I get to playing and share a crash log when I have a CTD. As I can get them fairly consistently, I'll go to a few different settlements via fast travel and walking and put the different logs in spoiler tags here. Thanks for the suggestion!
